David Gates and Bread had some of the best love songs. 'Sweet Surrender', 'Make It With You', 'Baby I'm a Want You' are all awesome tunes. 'Diary' from 1972 tops them all for me though, check it out. Also 'Guitar Man' is another tune I love. Not everything was a love song ballad.... Check out ' 'Let Your Love Go' and 'Mother Freedom' for some more up tempo stuff. Cheers.

As good as the songs are today for a first time listener, you can imagine how even more impactful and meaningful they are to those of us who grew up with them. It harkens back to a more innocent, easier time with less worries and a friendlier culture with more neighborly in-person social connections. They define an era and our personal experiences.

This was a time when girls were learning they could go to college and have careers. We didnt have to marry right out of high school and have babies or wear bras. My parents encouraged me and I've no regrets. I didn't marry til i was 31 and had 3 girls pretty quickly and then reality it was career and kids and it was tough to balance it all. I knew women who quit work to stay and said go for it So this song shows we were learning to be free and broke some hearts and had ours broken. Every song Bread did reflected my life in the 70s. Hi Saeed! Another of David Gates' love songs, but unusual in that it was about selfless love. Very short and to the point, I feel this song reflected an era of "open" love at the end of the 60's and into the 70's that saw many people/ couples aiming for this selfless perfection and falling miserably short. Regardless, a beautiful song by a matchless voice!
