My wife and I lost our youngest son several years ago. He was 27 and died of a heart attack. I was driving down the road several weeks ago and this song come on the radio. Such a touching song! David Gates wrote this song in memory of his father who died in 1963 & never saw the success he achieved with Bread. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender", "Aubrey" etc.

The older I get, the more these songs mean to me. Crying listening to this. The more I experience, the more empathy I have. I listen to this and think of my father. I dreamt of him every night for four years after he died. My husband lost his first wife and four-year-old son in a traffic accident many years ago and I know what he went through. He tried to bargain with God, "Take me, let them come back."

These type of songs definitely gain power over time. That is heartbreaking. I don't know if i would be able to survive that kind of loss.
@jeannemara16003 ай бұрын
@@SaeedReacts. Yes, it is something from which one **never** really recovers. The accident happened the year I was born (yes, my husband is considerably older than I.) We go to the cemetery at least once a year to pay our respects. Two weeks prior to the accident, his wife gave birth to a stillborn son. I don't know how he made it through. I make sure to honour his wife and two sons with their photos throughout the house as well as displaying his son's sweet cowboy boots and other mementos. I watched my parents walk through the death of my twenty-seven year old sister and I truly don't know how one makes it through those times. But, God does help. God was gracious enough to completely blot the aftermath (he was in the car, too) from his mind. He does not remember seeing his wife & son and realising they were no longer alive.

Thinking of loved ones, family and friends, that I've lost...the songs just hit that much harder! I've always been an empathetic and emotional person, but that emotional side has just amplified as I age. This song is certainly one that gets the water works going. My mom, my aunt, my second youngest cousin (died at 39 of breast cancer), and many others...I would give everything I own, give up my life, my heart, my home...just to have them back again!

I'm a dad of four, and Opi to nine. I have a wonderful relationship with my "chi-dults" (my made-up word for "adult children") and grandkids. But I will pass away, Lord willing before any of them do, and when I do, they'll need to say their goodbyes, but past that I don't want any of them to waste a single second "remembering" me. I don't want a grave, or an urn, or a marker of any kind--I want them to move on and live their lives and not give me another thought. I hope I was able to pass on some meaningful wisdom to them, but I don't care if they remember it was me that passed it on to them or not. I just want them to live their lives going forward, and never look back. I believe I will see them again in Glory, and that's all that matters to me.

My biggest issue with the genre of reaction videos is the lack of lyrical acknowledgement let alone actual commentary. Refrerence the reactions to "The Boxer" that completely ignore the lyrics. Maybe we need a poet to understand music from a time when the heart still had lyrical content. In fact it's my biggest co.mplaint about the genre. They are fetuses I feel sometimes. Thank you for finally addressing the critical element of that which is trying to be said. It's a critical element of the work. ✌️
