Break 80 skills - learn how to shape your golf shots. One of the skills you need to learn to break 80 or 90 for that matter is to learn how to shape your golf ball when you need to. No matter how much we don't want to invariably our ball will find our way into the trees. The smartest thing to do is to just chip it back into play. However what if you could shape the ball around a tree so you could perhaps get the ball on the green. This would save at least a shot maybe 2. In this video golf tip I show you my 3 keys to shot shaping that I have been using for well over 30 years and it has never let me down.

My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZbin? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZbin? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
Thanks for watching!

Great lesson Brian. Out of all the instructions I've seen about this, yours appears to be the most most straight forward and easiest to understand. I'm looking forward to putting this into practice. Thank You!

Brian, good info, well explained. I’m working on getting my game to settle a bit more comfortably in the 90’s at this point, so I’m putting this one in my ‘back pocket’ for later. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Bob. A good decision but if you do find yourself on the range you can give it a go. It’s handy and fun. I wouldn’t encourage putting it into play until you get to 7/10. There is nothing wrong with consolidating in the 90’s. Thanks for watching. Brian

@@fitzygolfpro Does the same apply for off the tee around dog legs?
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 2 жыл бұрын
It does Noel but I would be very wary of trying to do this. Don't try and hit draws and fades from the tee. It will cost you in the end. Hit your stock shot whatever it is. It is more important to be on the fairway. Stick to my 7/10 rule.

Excellent informational video on shaping shots Brian! I love shaping shots; however, I must have been taught wrong. To hit a draw, I set up with a slightly closed stance and slightly close the clubface and swing along my feet line. To hit a fade, I set up with a slightly open stance and slightly open clubface swinging along the feet line. I think I like your recommendation better and will try it in a couple of days. Good Job Brian!

Great advice. At next range session I will not be hitting straight, but trying this. The R to L is easy , my 8/10 shot. I open face and cut it, the L to R is one I need to gain confidence. Then it's using shape properly on course.

Could you comment on ball position for each scenario ? Would it be better to aim right of target for a right to left flight, then adjust the clubface and grip the club vs the way you describe ? Thank you
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 3 ай бұрын
The best thing is to try different things when you are by yourself on the course and see what works for you. I have given you the basic recipe but you might like a little more or a little less of some ingredients. The ball position for a right to left shot should be middle to slightly back. The ball position for a left to right shot should be middle to slightly forward. Brian

Shot shaping is great. But you absolutely do not need to know how to shape your shots to break 80. Spend 75% of your practice time on shots inside 100 and putting and you can break 80.
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 2 жыл бұрын
Regular views to my channel know my thoughts on how important the short game is to lowering your score. A good 75% of my content is aimed at improving short game, on course strategy and making the best use of your practice time. Breaking 80 requires many skills and I agree that the short game is probably the most important. Shot shaping (for getting out of trouble) is a skill that does come in handy for better players. Brian

@@fitzygolfpro fair enough. Not saying it’s not a good thing to do. But I break 80 regularly and play a draw. I can’t fade it. Just saying it’s not necessary to breaking 80.

So I take it that you are pointing the face where you want the ball to end up, then moving your feet and shoulders, and then griping the club? Thanks

@fitzygolfpro

salut Marc. Commencez avec votre balle au milieu pour les deux et voyez ce qui fonctionne pour vous. Légèrement en retrait pour un tir de droite à gauche. Légèrement en avant pour un tir de gauche à droite. Brian
