My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZbin? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZbin? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

Brian, I’m big on commenting! But these points you’ve made are all things that take seconds to do or think about. So much of the game is in thinking about it. Simply taking a moment. Not wanting to rehash, but many times “take the shot you know you can make” goes through my head. It’s helped lower my score. I’ve doubled the time I’m taking hitting a bucket at the range. Just like these points, it all adds up. Thanks.

I always used the 10 metre difference rule between clubs. There could be no set rule on this as the longer you hit your irons the greater the gap should be. All you could do is go and get it properly measured, which I think I will now get done. Great video.

It is well worth doing Anthony. Many sets of clubs have 4 degree gaps with their shorter irons and 3 degree gaps with their mid to long irons which is why there aren't 10 m gaps. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. Brian

Je retiendrais particulièrement la distance entre les clubs "7" ou "8" mètres, pieds ... ! J'avais déjà une approche dans ce sens avec : "après un coup de wedge la balle roule +/- 6m après l'impact !" (données Titleist "Vokey" + Pro V1, faites avec un robot de tir)! Donc je vais retravailler là dessus, pour être plus précis ! Pour le reste je l'applique déjà, si ce n'est que sur les approches, ma technique( "moins" conventionnelle) est de vouloir rentrer la balle ou de m'approcher du trou au plus près, en me concentrant exclusivement sur la ligne de tir et dans ce domaine, j'ai un très bon ratio dans l'ensemble ! This deserves more views! All advice are simple and easy enough to do if remembered! I liked perhaps the club selection and picking a point on green the best. I would perhaps have added one tip I have gotten, a tip to play the hole from green to the teeing ground in your mind. It is interesting how going opposite changes ones strategy!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Views are always a good thing but I prefer my videos to find the right audience rather than lots of the wrong audience with lots of views. I always used to walk a course backwards when I was viewing it for the first time and doing my yardages. It’s a much better perspective as you say. There's a certain high profile youtube golfer (and nice chap) who might break 75 a lot easier if he listened to that putting tip ;) All great stuff as always, I'm guilty of the chipping mistake, in choosing a landing spot but then looking at the pin as soon as I'm over the ball, will remember this. Great tips ! Reading the green from 2 sides is important. Last week on my first hole I only looked at it from below the hole and it looked uphill, it was downhill. the first putt went about 8 feet past the hole. 3 putted it. 🤦‍♂️

I do most of my "looking" on my way to the ball so people don't even notice that I am reading the green. I believe if you walk correctly between shots you deserve a little time over the ball. What pissed me off more is I have a green reading book of my local muni from GolfLogix here in NY and after I walked off that green I looked at the book and saw my putt was downhill. 🤦‍♂️

My son said “focus on your ball striking, you’ve been playing 30 years and you know your swing on muscle memory”. 💥 then went +1 on my next 5 holes. +7 on the front 9. Eagled the par 5 12th hole and shot even par on the back 9 for a 79. Amazing. Just one swing thought and that’s all I needed !!

Good advice! Course and golfer management! One thing I might add to you tip about aiming properly to fit your shot shape is to use the width of the tee box properly. If your normal tee shot shape is left to right, it is very helpful to tee off from the right side of the tee box and aim for the left third of the fairway. This gives you the maximum area to land your ball. Even a ball that is overcooked will likely end up in the first cut and not OB.
