Flower mound HS, Hebron HS both use traditional grip. I personally think grip is all about a directors preference and the marching education that the middle school percussion has before entering highschool

I’d say separate 10 notes into the one 4/4 bar equally spaced, and then they possibly just memorized the pattern and set a metronome to the pattern

Start at 30 bpm, record yourself playing the check to the splits (which is straight eighth note fives) then play to the recording sitting perfect, rinse and repeat everyday for a week, next week bump the tempo, eventually you’ll hit your wall, keep pushing and you’ll break through and the rest of the tempos should come pretty easily

Not every Marching band uses traditional I do like traditional alot better than matched grip but for their case they have to use it for the visual aspect of the whole show they have reasons why they use matched grip plus maybe they are in Texas, Texas drumlines don't use traditional

amazing sound and great technique, but... why do i see all of these big bands and drumlines for highschools using match? just my opinion but i’m not that mad about it since they make themselves sound pretty damn nice. again, i believe traditional grip fits more of the marching style and of course, match grip for concert/jazz/whatever other band. maybe they use traditional if they wanna get fancy in those bands but yeah. just simply looks more sophisticated and “correct” i guess when big marching bands especially, use traditional.

Skittlz nothing is wrong with matched grip, it just doesint look as good as traditional that’s not the reason lol, and actually a lot of Texas uses traditional. Hebron uses it. Coppell, Marcus, And us/ argyle uses matches because it’s easier to keep your chops up and you don’t have 2 different things going on in each hand so the consistency keeps it a lot cleaner too. Also a lot of Texas schools don’t do indoor and they also play mallets, etc. it. Keeps us more rounded players.
