I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. I like the change though. Hunter is not just a copypatsa of vampire but human edition and it feels like there are these supernatural creatures that are stronger than you and that is the horror.

Are Vampire: The Masquerade and Hunter: The Reckoning compatible in regards to mechanics? I wanna run/play in a game where the players use vampires and hunters as character options. I came into the fandom because of the Hunter: The Parenting series, and I love the idea that The Great And Mighty Kevin proposes by his existence: What if a vampire and hunter could legit work together?

The systems are fully compatible. A hunter is generally underpowered compared to a vampire, so there might be some need to adjust if you want the options to be balanced. But the underlying mechanics are the same for both games.

As a Story Teller/DM I've actually found the best way to use this book is as a supplemental to V5, for example I'll be running a game in a few months where the player characters are going to be a grab bag of Hunters, Vampires, and Wolves. It's really not hard to bend a rule here or there to make them all compliment one another. In a previous game I ran, one of my players Hunters had been mortally wounded and was embraced so he could continue on with his goals.

Is there any Imbued in this version? If not then I'm sticking with the old school Hunter the Reckoning. I was invited to take part in a play test for new Content for World of Darkness playing as either a Vampire or a Hunter. And hunter sounds more disappointing the more I listen to videos on it. This is a good break down video, cheers and thank you for sharing.

None. There is zero reason to play this game over any of the other hundreds of generic games that could do monster hunting better.

​​@@thashadowspawn There are imbued in this version, they just aren't called imbued. Insted when choosing special abilities you can choose some that'd normally be available only to imbued, or stick to purely human abilities if you don't wanna be one. Not sure if the game mentions that these supernatural abilities make you an imbued or provide roleplay tips/special rules for them tho.

By no means a bad product, the problem is it came out within a few months of Hunter the Vigil second edition, and doesn't fully match up to it. Of course the biggest weakness is Orgs for me, you can actually join the various Orgs in Vigil and they are never considered 'not proper' hunters despite what secondary agendas and such they usually have

these are inferior Hunters. the original is still the best. less Reckoning, more Vigil. and part of why a period of mourning is called a vigil, and a fight against a threat is called a Reckoning.

It is man. The Anarch source book for VtM is a real let down too. By the time you are half way through the book, you'd think every Anarch lick is either gay, lesbian, or transgender lol. Not to make any opinions on those subjects, but the writers just missed the mark on so much of a game that's about bloodsucking horrors of the night. I've heard similar complaints on HtR 5th

I honestly prefer the idea of normal people fighting supernatural monsters. It just has a more hopeful feeling that anyone who discovers the truth could become a real threat and reinforces the importance of the masquerade/veil.

​@@pessimisticnihilist3691Totally agree. This book handles to storyteller everything one needs to make a good and enjoyable story about struggle. I have a group that's precisely into that sort of thing. And in general, I don't find the idea of imbued interesting. Sure, after playing vampire for 4 years, dominating people and having blood sorcery, it might feel disappointing to play just human again, but that exact contrast is what makes this book worth buying for me

Personally, I'm not a fan of H5. I understand that not everyone likes the lore behind the original HtR, but at least it gave the game it's own feel and identity. This game just feels like a poor mans HtV, and it doesn't even allow you to join Hunter organizations like HtV does.

AT BEST, an ordinary human hunter can only kill Fledgling Vampires. There is NO WAY they can fight a Vampire Elder and win. No F*ing WAY! A Vampire Elder just use Celerity and Potence, the hunters stand no chance!

Underdeveloped. It's giving amateurish endeavors. Like the Thin Bloods doing magic blood alchemy in their tummies or the obsession with trying to make resonance a thing. WW stop trying to make resonance a thing!!! ugh. Onyxx Path really is the best of the world of darkness.
