Isn’t it amazing what people will recycle! That’s good that you have a connection that you can get a hold of things like that and make some good use out of them.

I bought one used, from what I recall as "a rich woman" in Wayland, MA in either 1976 or 77 while I was a sophomore in college. I'd been pretty happy with my Harmon-Kardon 330B receiver that I bought used in high school, but its knobs were getting scratchy, and college friends who did things like build their own components from Dynaco kits, urged me to buy the 1060 when I saw it in the WantAdvertiser for cheap. I forget whether I paid $60 or $100, but it was not more than that. I hope it's still in a box in storage with the rest of stuff accumulated by age 66 now, which I plan to sort through and sell off in the next 2 years. My last memory of it was that something was wrong, so I cut all but a couple of inches of the power cord off, to remind myself it needed work. I'm hoping I didn't chuck it out during one move or another, in the 30 years since then.

It is a nice rig however the owner decided to cheap out and not recap it. Thats okay, it still runs. Gotta love that old gear.

I have the little brother to this integrated amplifier, the 1030. Using it with a Sansui tuner for over 30 years. Not the most powerful amplifier around, but it sure does have that sweet sound you can only get from a vintage Marantz.
@ericvillano57294 жыл бұрын
Out of all my Marantz units, (I have 3 receivers, and one integrated) even though this is by far, the least powerful, for some reason, it has the warmest sound for low level listening. Play it in my dining room with either ADS, Realistic, or Wharfedale bookshelf speakers I keep alternating with, for some reason. My wife doesn't understand it, but I just took the ADS speakers down, and put the Realistics up just yesterday. 😀

@@breakerbroke23 She thinks it some kind of mid-life crisis thing, like I'm on an absurd, ridiculous quest for better sound, and sees it as expending energy and effort to catch a unicorn unnecessarily. I don't know why I keep changing speakers. I guess I get bored with the sound, and enjoy water time experimenting. But it's what I enjoy, no matter how much is disrupts her interior decor. So your response must be correct.- Because I can, and no other reason.

Mine plays fine. But the power switch is jammed into the ON position. I obtained a new power switch, but not brave enough to switch it out. Could you do a video on that ? 😊
@breakerbroke23 Жыл бұрын
1st Get some DeOx amzn.to/3x1GV6A and spray into the switch and try your best to work the DeOx in. I have brought back many a stuck switch doing this. (sorry no video), your going to need some DeOx anyways for the other switches and pots. If that doesn't work, then take as many close-up pictures of the switch that you can, take a deep breath and swap out your switch. You will get it. Let us know how it goes for you, Cheers

This is cool! I've got my original Marantz 1060 that I purchased new in 1974 along with a matching Marantz 112 stereo tuner and the Marantz 6100 turntable. The only thing I've needed to replace is the lamps in the tuner. It serves now as a second system in my den. These things were really built to last and last. I would be surprised if you need to replace the capacitors.

With the amp hooked up to speakers play some music with the volume control low, wiggle the Spk A&B, balance, tape, aux... If you get sound back, then DeOx the switch or pot that brought back your sound.

Is there a part two to this video? I have the Marantz 1060 that I've had since about 73 and it still works great except for an intermittent connection problem with my Technics turntable.

Name recognition mostly (IMHO). They do sound good however the overall circuit design is very very close to the Pioneer amps of the day, and sound wise is almost as good as the Kenwood 3500 intergraded amp. So if you can’t find a Marantz look 👀 for the Pioneer or Kenwood, you won’t have the bragging rights but you will have great sound. Cheers
