The SubSonex is not THAT expensive really. Not compared to any new certified aircraft anyway. It only burns a little more fuel at cruise than a piston. I wish the physics were more favorable for small turbine efficiency though.
@RCexplained3 жыл бұрын
I too am looking for more efficiency in smaller turbines, just in my case they are for RC planes. It's not that smaller turbines have to be less efficient. Majority of small turbines use very old core technology - Single stage centrifugal compressor turbo jets are not the way to go for pure efficiency but are very simple and low cost. This tech was used in the de Havilland Vampire from the 1940's for example. I absolutely love the idea of small turbines used in micro jets no matter how they come. Awesome. Just awesome. On the take-off run i thought, _"jeez, just on take-off this thing is already blazingly fast",_ then I saw the IAS just passing 70 kt on rotation. What an impression the low-sitting airplane has. This must take some getting used to, especially when judging when to flare. I found the rear-facing camera a little annoying, with it's showing the horizon rolling in opposite directions to the ADI and the real horizon. Isn't there some potential for disorientation there? I'd consider [1] facing the camera forward, behind the main LG so as to still show the LG travel and position (I do get the disadvantage here), or [2] keep it where it is but flip its image so the horizon movements shown to the pilot agrees with reality. ...Did I mention I found this awesome?

Two words: sharing economy. If more people got on board there could be easy ways for several people to throw in for a jet, including maintenance and insurance on it. Only contributors get to fly it, and only qualified pilots can contribute. The more contributors the less per person, but the longer the wait between slots to use it. Maintenance would be done by a 3rd party company and would note when and who may be abusing the group's investment. This is an idea that needs to come, as billionaires are heading to space. We all want to play! From exotic cars and yachts to reusable orbiters.

@@kevykevTPA Sharing economics don't require any help at all so idk why you're treating it like it would be a handout. The main raison d'etre for the sharing economy is to create a way for everyone to participate in planet-detrimental activities. If everyone had a personal rocket it would be disastrous. All sorts of aircraft could be cheaply manufactured and used by people with today's technology. They would be easy to build as Asian motorcycles. But there are nanny state overseers, in cahoots with tossers who see it as some sort of prestige and privilege to be part of what they perceive to be an exclusive and elite club, who prevent this from happening. Like the golf club used to be, they keep it cost prohibitive. The first aviators just built their own machines and charged it. But you can't do that now. I saw another KZbin channel where the dude made his own plane in the shed, and the authorities told him to get out of the sky. We don't live free lives. Then you cop all that sanctimonious crap about safety. Like you shouldn't be able to take a risk if you want a bit of fun. Human ingenuity is often stunted in the highly controlled societies we live in today. Reminds me of the graffiti I saw in the toilet wall when I was a university student. In a society that destroys adventure, the only adventure left is to destroy society. Only thing you're really free to build these days is something that prevents others from stopping you.

Me: I could fly an F16. My friend who flew the F16 to me: "You couldn't fly a Kite you're so stupid."
@jamescole68463 жыл бұрын
I had a friend that worked on these at Lockheed. He said the F16 will actually fly itself. No human really needed. They tested this at Edwards Air Force Base in California. We’re all familiar with F-16s. We’re all familiar with drones. But we’re not all quite so familiar with F-16s flying like drones. Little do most people realize, the U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin actually started flying robo-F-16s in complex training exercises back in 2017. The demonstration was deemed a success after the plane demonstrated its ability to accomplish three primary objectives: the ability to “autonomously plan and execute air-to-ground strike missions” based on the aforementioned mission priorities and available assets; the ability to “dynamically react to a changing threat environment during an air-to-ground strike mission” which included managing contingencies for a number of potential failures, and finally, the ability to allow for the “rapid integration of software components developed by multiple providers.”
