Do people actually know the history of Black History Month? That it was created by a Black man (Carter G Woodson) in 1926 as Negro History Week and it was later expanded into Black History Month. The reason for it being in February had to do with the birthdays of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. I can only imagine how hard it was to create this celebration and recognition in 1926. We can and should want more recognition for the undeniable contributions of Black people in this country, but we shouldn’t dismiss the hard work of a Black man attempting to celebrate our achievements at a time when doing so would’ve been nearly impossible. It’s possible to respect the ancestors and move the needle forward.

Shin-Blade People need to stop thinking on the ground level and thinking they're having big thoughts. We're all aware how long february is and understand the concept of 1 month being less than 12 months. I don't think anyone wanted the least amount of attention for black history possible. White people are literally actively trying to ban black history right now, you think they would want to dedicate more than one month to black history? The point was to make sure more people, especially outside of the black community, got some opportunity to at least learn something about black history if anything at all. Because before that, that's exactly what was happening. People were learning ZERO black history. Giving a month ensures they can learn some and maybe even learn more if it grabs their interest. As a black person you should probably be learning black history every week, every month anyways. Black history wasn't so much focused on black people as much as it was about educating everyone else and telling them black people's story. You're not going to get these people to learn black history the whole year.

I respect Mr. Freeman ,he is a great actor, one of the best. He, like others are clueless about BHM. Carter G Woodson started it for students. Black teachers taught it as part American History classes. Bulletins & Journals were created for Black educator fostered through effort & support of Dr Woodson, Dr Mary McLeod Bethune & others. Black History month had a theme it was taught all year, February was the display month for student projects. We can see Black History it is needed when individual change history stating Black benefited from slavery, or Jim Crow was great for Black families or Civil War not about slavery. There are many ethnic groups that celebrate their ethnicity. It you dislike BHM then is not for you

I'm a Nigerian (man) and Tems is on point and nothing "sad" about it. In other parts of the world a spade is called a spade regardless of how much these pretenders Envy and Charlamagne carry on. The reality is clothes often times DO convey a message. You can't wear a bikini and heels to a music studio and claim you're trying to focus on the music. I'm a lawyer. I can't wear a sleeveless singlet/tank top to the court and claim to be a serious somebody.

Sir, if a spade was just a spade there would be no reason to have this conversation. Your career as an lawyer does not compare to hers as an musical artist. You went to law school. You're a lawyer. Tems on the other hand doesn't see herself as serious artist, if she's worried about people perceiving her as a serious artist. The reality is that you and only you convey your message to universe of how you perceive yourself! No matter how you're dressed She could walk in the studio with a cloth sheet on and still would not be taken seriously as an artist if she doesn't see herself that way!

I kinda agree with Morgan, ive researched black history month a bit and i respect why it was created. After all that segregation stuff was over, something was needed from America that said "we apologize" after all that protesting just to be treated equally was insane. After all that, our morale was low, confidence was low and alot of us didnt care. Black history month was to boost morale and to inspire us, but it doesn't have that effect anymore. We should call it, American history month.

You didn’t do enough research if you did you would know Black Americans were celebrating and teaching our own kids about Black History on Black History week the 2nd week in February before the Government ever started to acknowledge our history during Jim Crow! Black Americans took that time out and we we learned more about our African lineage it grew from a week to a month it was never part of the curriculum until after the civil rights era so it was basically fun mixed with knowledge for Black American children!! We created black history month just like we created Juneteenth for us not the government or white Americans
