As a singer myself… I'll say Whitney Houston’s voice was just so golden that everything she touched sounded amazing. But Mariah’s songs, even without the whistle notes, are harder to sing. I don't touch them except easier ones like Hero. Most of the time people cover Whitney songs to prove they can sing with soul and they're capable of singing them. They just don't sound as good as Whitney about 90% of the time and there's nothing they can do about that. They avoid Mariah songs because of a skill issue or even a range issue. People focus on her whistle notes but sometimes Mariah sings as low as Toni Braxton and then switched to high soprano in the same song and I'm just like bro that's not fair now come on. Either way they're both supreme singers. Nobody sounds like Whitney Houston except Glennis Grace and nobody cares 😂.

I still don't understand why this topic gets brought up to this day. They are both once in a lifetime talents that we will never see again. There isn't a vocalist in the world who isn't inspired by them both. I love them both, and 'When You Believe' is like a gospel song for me. We will probably never get a duet with two of the greatest voices in the world like that again. Like it was stated this is going to come down to personal preference because they have different styles of singing with different strengths. Whitney's voice was three octaves and her powerful resonant belts were unmatched. Mariah's voice was five octaves and her agility , to go from the bottom of her register to the top of her register, was unmatched. This isn't to say that Whitney didn't have range/agility and that Mariah didn't have powerful resonant belts. They both are great, and they have both acknowledged how the industry tried to start this feud. I know Tamar wrote Love and War. Maybe that's why she's more influenced by Mariah because Mariah is involved in the songwriting and production of her songs. Who knows, but it's her personal preference and that's okay. Ya'll attacking someone over their opinion is wack, and put some respect on Mariah's name. The way some of ya'll talk about her now is the way ya'll were talking about MJ and Whitney before they passed.

She has an opinion and she stated her preference. Unlike some of y'all, Tamar can actually sing and has been trained and in the business with her sisters for over a decade now. Before Mariah's abilities declined, she def could give Whitney a healthy run for her money, ESPECIALLY if Mariah's pen was involved. They are different and if you like the whistling songbird style, you'd go with Ms. Five Octaves too. She's also a bigger Mariah fan and likes her music better. Nobody is taking away from the Icon that is, Whitney.
