NOW I UNDERSTAND! As an Aerospace Engineer I can guarantee you it IS possible for an intercontinental missile to be maneuverable. There was a program during the Cold War to develop maneuverable intercontinental missiles. Ballistic missiles are just that, ballistic, like when you throw a ball. It has a ballistic trajectory, right? It goes up and then it goes down, and the direction doesn't change much besides the influence of the wind and drag. ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) work the same way; therefore, after being launched, you can pretty much calculate the target within minutes of takeoff. So what a maneuverable intercontinental missile is that it IS capable of changing its trajectory in mid-flight! How? Playing with the Center of Gravity (CG) and the Aerodynamic Center (AC). So the AC doesn't change mid-flight, but the CG can change. To illustrate the CG grab a pen and try to balance it on one finger, congrats, that's the CG. So how do you change the CG mid-flight? You pump fluid from one part of the missile to another!!! Why does this matter? Well now, to illustrate what the AC is, use the same pen as before. Lift it with two fingers grabbing it from one end. What you are doing is applying force on a very small point; the AC is the point where the average of the aerodynamic forces are applied. That is, lift of course. So, is the AC in the same place as the CG? not necessarily, right? You balanced the pen somewhere it the middle but you can lift it from one end. The same concepts apply in missiles and aircraft. Why is this important? If you pick up the pen from one end, it will rotate around the CG (unless you grab it stiff enough,) same thing with a maneuverable intercontinental missile. Therefore, by changing the CG you can make the missile rotate and move around freely. This my friend, IS rocket science, not too hard right? So what happened? Well, imagine if the US was to test an ICBM, Russia sees that on the radar, they calculate the trajectory (assuming it IS an ICMB) and they say "oh well, it's gonna crash in the middle of the Atlantic", just another test, no worries. But then, it turns out it is NOT an ICMB, during mid flight it changes trajectory and it targets Moscow... all hell breaks loose and the World is now over. This made people very nervous, so both superpowers abandoned these type of programs. The thing is that nobody actually wanted to use nuclear weapons, they were just bluffing. In conclusion, yes an intercontinental missile can in fact be maneuverable, NO FICTION.

@guineazilla68429 жыл бұрын
***** N'aw, too small to be a nuke. Heavily resembles the Grunder Hypersthene (The MPBM from 0), looks like it has about the same, maybe a bit larger range. Acepedia says it was possibly a downgraded version of the Burst Missiles from 5's Scinfaxi.
@andrewrogers61978 жыл бұрын
+guineazilla Nuclear weapons don't explode with nearly as much power when blown up by a force other than a detonator. They normally wouldn't explode at all. Everything points to it being a nuclear weapon from the title referring to "broken arrow" which is a missing nuclear weapon, to the plane that launched the middle(the xb70) being designed specifically for nukes, they definitely are.
@nickfury12796 жыл бұрын
Nuclear devices can actually be made pretty small. However, despite that, I don’t think it was a nuke. Recall if you will, that one mission in Ace Combat Zero, where you have to stop a squadron of Belkan bombers carrying nukes who are en route to Ustio. After you destroy all the bombers and their escorts, the nukes are set off anyway. Right when they go off, the entire sky lights up in a blinding bright white, and then the shockwave slams into your plane. This missile seems more similar to the MPBMs that the Morgan from Zero carries. While not a nuke, it still would cause a lot of damage if it had reached its target

I love how in Ace Combat 4 you had to worry about normal ballistic missiles and the below 2000 feet for stonehenge. And then my favorite game, Ace Combat 5 comes along with "Above 5000 feet" And freaking molten metal rain ballistic missiles with arkbird and well then.
@Rigel_610 жыл бұрын
AC:X had Gleipnir, and it was a bitch the first time - stay below it for too long - you get blasted with the shock cannon. You fly too high? The SWBM will take care of ya. And AC6 Aigaion? Below it you were completely invulnerable, but try flying above it - the flak cannons will tear you to shreds in a matter of seconds.
@danerfmasterr10110 жыл бұрын
TrueKrimzonOne I've played Zero, Four, Five, and Six. I have to admit, Aigaion was hilariously easy if you had bombs on you. You could just fly over the fat monsters and drop it on them. I actually used the A-10 once and it was easy, but I preferred the F-35 or another fast plane that was easy to maneuver and could drop bombs; you could tell your allies to deal with the enemy squadron. Breaking Arrows just pissed me off for some reason. I almost broke my controller using the throttle, even with the X-02; I also went for the ace. I like Ace Combat 6 more because you don't need to kill your square button trying to open the map. It's just *bloop* and it opened lol. Favorite superplane and plane? My favorite SP is the CFA-44 Nosferatu, and favorite normal plane was usually the F-22 or SU-47.
@Fighterpilot55510 жыл бұрын
Azarin Asinis I prefer to fly the X-02. It gives a nice feel, and isn't ridiculously overpowered like the Nosferatu or the FALKEN/Morgan
@danerfmasterr10110 жыл бұрын
I don't really like the nosferatu as much anymore because you do one High-G turn and it stalls and basically falls out of the sky. Yes, the X-02 is a little more "Down to earth" (excuse the pun), but if I'm going to have a super plane, it's cool to have it super. Otherwise I'm fine with just flying an F-22 or SU-47. I think the falken is my favorite super plane now...

Getting an S rank in this mission is nightmarish
@hoangtran47363 жыл бұрын
It's doable. The trick is to get a fast plane that can reliably shoot down targets, everything else is irrelevant. Go for the su37, since it is both the fastest plane and has the most qaams (you cant get the wyvern until you s rank every mission). To get an s rank, you need to kill 2/3 of the following: the sr71 on top of the map, the ace also on top of the map, or the 2 f-22s that spawn later. With the su37 you can just barely do all 3, so 2 is plenty possible. Since qaams in ac4 are op broken, use the qaams for the planes. That way you dont waste time dog fighting the enemy planes, just qaam lock on, fire, and move on to the next target. The enemy will die after a while, it's almost guaranteed. You will probably need between 2-5 qaamd for the planes, so feel free to use the rest on the missiles.

Ah, the great dilemma of Broken Arrows. Do you pack XMAAs/XLAAs for the second wave, or QAAMs for the final missile?
