The moment when they were stocking while shouting "stop buying things!" Is exactly how working retail feels.

@@Deityoftime it's not so much that you don't want people buying things it's that you'll have a ton to stock and then someone will come behind you and either take everything you've just stocked so you have to completely restock again or they will completely disorganize what you've organized. It's only really bad in like dollar stores usually. Like I know stocking is neverending, but It just can be frustrating from the worker perspective.

You say that, but where I'm from we use 10,000 yen bills (the equivalent of a 100 dollar bill) to buy mundane cheap stuff all the time. If you don't take out enough to last you a couple days at least then when the ATMs inevitably close a few days for some holiday you forgot existed then you are left hung out to dry. Sometimes all you got is a 10,000 yen bill and you gotta break it somehow XP.

My first job was at a little local bakery in the late 90s. Back then, 2 rolls cost about 50 cents. We would constantly get people who would ONLY have 20s. The register had only $50 in it at the start of business, so 2 customers doing that would wipe us out and we would need to hit the bank! Luckily there was one in the plaza, but it was still a pain - I always wanted to tell people : can't you just find 50 cents in your carseat??

Speaking on the Supermarket Sweep revival that Arin mentioned (which aired and was produced during the pandemic) the best part was that the producers allowed the contestants to customize their sweatshirts (which competitors famously wore even dating back to the original) however they wanted. For example, you could tear off the sleeves and make it into a tank top of sorts (which would definitely help when running through the store) or just completely turn it into an arts and crafts project and drench it in glitter, because why not?

Oh, yes, anyone who works retail can tell you there's NO end of guys with smoldick energy who will show up to buy a pack of gum just to break a hundred-dollar bill. Why do they have it? Why didn't they break it at the bank? Why didn't they deposit it and use a debit card? Because walking around with a wad of bluenotes makes them feel like a bigshot. It's awesome, keep doing it guys. We love having to endlessly go to the safe to get more change.

I work nights. I've kicked people out for thinking they can force me to take the hundred. My favourite is telling them, "So you give me the hundred, and I'll give you three 5s and four 1s back". For some reason they never do it...

I used to work at a concert venue and someone tried this at the wardrobe paying with 200 euro for the 1 euro it cost to hang your coat... I told him we can't accept that and when he gave a fuss, I grabbed all the single euro's from the register and started counting: one, two, three, four... by the time I reached 9, he went full Karen and demanded a supervisor.

For anyone disappointed about the like button not glowing it's because KZbin pushes out different features to different people to test people's response. In some cases it's good because only a few people deal with some massive problem, in other cases you miss out on something interesting because you're not in the test group. It changes randomly so you'll see stuff sometimes and others time won't until it either vanishes or sticks for good. It worked for me.
