And this exact scene led to his downfall. There is this tendency among serial killers to leave some sort of clue in the crime scene, so people get to know their work. This was Walt leaving his clue so that his work is recognized.

If Walt said nothing, Hank wouldn’t have felt compelled to look back into the case. Just shows you how much he respected Walt’s opinion, even if he occasionally ridiculed him. But that was just Hank’s character, he made fun of everyone, even Gomez. I genuinely think Hank loved him like a brother and that made the betrayal sting even more.
@bluelit4830
@bluelit4830 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a stretch. I don’t know why everyone keeps saying that. Yes Hank would have for a moment but you seem to forget that they kept cooking for a while after Gale died. How’s it that the genius is dead but the blue stuff keeps popping up everywhere. Hank would have opened the case again. It’s simplistic to say that he woulda left it here if it wasn’t for Walter. You all some how forgot that the blue stuff continued production after.

That statement would fit perfectly if it was something legitimate not making the world’s best meth. I’m sorry but that was a dumb move. He’s finally getting Hank obsessive ass off his ass, but what did he do? He blows because he can’t handle Gale taking the fall for him when it comes to who created the world’s best meth. That in turn got obsessive cop obsessing again. Walt should’ve known that there’s a time for everything and to get over himself for once and shit up.

I think it’s the implications of it that make it impactful. Hank knew Los Pollos Hermanos, and knew that their owner worked with the DEA. Gale is a proven drug manufacturer, and it’s apparent that he ate a very confined diet that was healthy and devoid of animal products. Why on earth would he have a packet from a company that sells *fried chicken*, which is quite unhealthy and goes against his vegan principles? Gus working with the DEA only increased the suspicion that Hank had for him.

An interesting part of this scene to me is 0:48 . After Hank calls Gale a genius, he goes on to make his point, that Gale was a wasted genius. That it's a shame his genius was used for something so meaningless. The reason he's talking isn't to praise Gale's genius, its to admonish how tragic it was that Gale's genius was never used for anything purposeful. But Walt can't hear any of that, because after he heard Gale get called a genius that's all he can think about. Hank then calls him an "actual genius" and we can see on Walt's face another pang of irritation, but then he doesn't hear again when Hank continues to talk about how many better things Gale could have done.

No it’s definitely an ego thing, brother pay attention to the scene you’re making up your own lore lol. He doesn’t love the chase because there wasn’t really a chase before this, he did everything you could to avoid it. he did this because credit for his work always goes to someone else. Like his college friends making millions off his work, Jesse a junkie drop out being able to create the exact same quality of meth he can, and then this credit for his 99% pure meth formula going to a lesser chemist.

In addition to Gale taking his credits, what triggered Walt's self-confessed words is probably how Hank described Gale, "If you applied that big brain of his to something good, I don't know, who knows what could have helped humanity". Walt is ironically that "big brain" guy who contributed to the establishment of Gray Matter and some part of a Nobel-Prize-winning work, however only ending up as a high school teacher who never received the respect he deserved from his family and students. Hank even joked about his less masculine personality in the beginning of the first season, saying something like "guns are for men" when Walter thought guns were heavier than he had thought. Walt is that genius who helped humanity but never received applause in the way Hank acclaimed Gale's, which was actually Walt's, genius work.

To be fair to Walter that at this point he knew was a dead man by Gus. He killed Gale and now that person who he deemed as weak was taking all the credit of his work. Not just that but he knows they are using Jessie against him leaving him even more emasculated. Then Skyler goes and buys the car wash and even scolds him for paying cash for champagne. Walter felt like no one even gives a shit about his life could end at any moment and it wouldn’t matter in the slightest. The only thing he could do was just speak the truth, for one moment say that there is someone out there better than Gale. Yeah it screwed him and everyone over, but keep in mind that none of this would’ve happened if Skyler just let him die like he wanted to, or if Jessie didn’t try to kill those drug dealers, or let Jane blackmail Walt. Everyone had a role in making of Heisenberg.

This is the moment that had Walt stuck to his game plan from the start, he would have never been caught. He would have died without nobody knowing the legendary Heisenberg. Secured a future for his family indefinitely and would have deterred the DEA away from from him. But no. Walt couldn’t live without people knowing the truth. He couldn’t let his brother-in law believe he had won. This is what ego and pride does folks. It makes us incompetent. Prone to weakness. Gus Fring was many things, but he was never prideful. He waited 20 years to get revenge on the cartel, because he kept his plans away from his enemies. Because he made them believe he was a weak. That compared to him, he was inferior. It would have been so interesting to see a timeline were Walt had kept his pride in cheek. To see how many more months or maybe years he would have had and how much he would have grown his criminal empire to see it also double in size.
