I think Jack bringing out Jesse is actually in character, albeit convenient for the plot. Walt specifically says “you partnered with him” to flare his ego at the accusation of working with a “rat”. since he’s a sadist, he’s probably proud of how deeply he fucked up Jesse and wants to prove his contempt for him.

Pride is the sin that killed most of the main characters. Walt could have taken the first 3 million and be done; Gus could have delegated the killing of Hector, Hank could have admitted to the DEA he missed Walt right under his nose, Jack could have had them kill Walt outside like planned. Pride and ego killed all these men.

I feel like this episode having no conflict was kinda perfect for wrapping up Walts story. The whole series there was always a step he wasn’t willing to take, something he didn’t have the guts to do, a crack in the finish. And In Granite State, he almost gives up entirely, until he doesn’t. Walt finally realizes his potential, his luck he’s had since the beginning, and uses it all one last time to set things right (to a degree). Over the course of the show, Walt tried to be Elliot, then Tuco, then Gus, then Heisenberg. And these choices led to his downfall. But in the finale? He was finally Walter White.
@samalmighty1313

Walter White in the finale is far more badass and far cooler than literally any other version of himself in the series. His ego is mostly under control, he is frighteningly calm as he makes his plays, and his smarts are killer. Plus his look is genuinely haunting. If he'd been like his Felina self during his meth empire phase, things might have gone better for him

The Ricin needed to be used because it was a Chekhov's gun, why focus on the Capsule of Ricin / Recin throughout all the seasons never to be used, I think the Use of Ricin as the Chekhov's gun in Breaking Bad was great and I would say is one of the greatest examples of it, every time Walt would take it out of the bedside plugs you never know if this was the episode he would be using it, it kept us guessing even with the last episode you still couldnt guess if he was going to use the ricin or not, even when they focused on Lyda sirring her drink with the sweetener it was only confirmed in the final part when Lydia calls which was perfect way to explain walt's use of the ricin completing the Chekhov's gun.
@NoName-ym1ls
@NoName-ym1ls 2 жыл бұрын
@Harry the Hat It isn’t a “scrambled” theory, it’s the _very commonly used_ literary concept that the creators cited as inspiration for focusing so heavily on the ricin in the show. The OP didn’t just pull that out of his ass, Chekhov’s gun is a concept used in _tons_ of movies, TV shows, and written works. Btw, if you _need_ commas and periods inserted in order to understand this comment, you might be at a 3rd grade reading level, because it was fairly well articulated without proper punctuation. You tried to make yourself sound smart and ended proving that you’re about as sharp as a golf ball.

@@mankytoes I think Jack demonstrates enough ego and weird "honor" that he would want to send Walt to the grave with undeniable proof. Jack was hired to do a job; he didn't do it to the letter and it nags at him; he saw Walt as an equal, but who has now fallen. But he still owed Walt a fulfillment of that promise. As an analogy: if Walter was Napoleon, Jack was another monarch. It was best to demonstrate to himself and his people that he honored Monarchy. Napoleon was not executed like a common criminal, he was exiled and allowed to retain title of emperor to uphold an institution. It helped guarantee that monarchs would continue to treat each other in a similar way and legitimized the structures that maintained their power. Jack proved to Walt that he may not have completely honored the letters of his promise, but he did honor the spirit of his promise. Even though Walt no longer had political power in the criminal world, the infamous Heisenberg still represented an institution and a pragmatic tradition among other criminals. Jack ensuring Walter knew he honored the spirit of agreements would have helped him negotiate with other crime bosses.

I think having walts plans work out smoothly in the final episode was necessary. We wanted to see a conclusion to all these relationships, having a bunch of road blocks would eat up time from seeing these heartbreaking moments. We want closure more than anything, that was the priority here.

I love the script for that episode: “We stay right here with Walt. He’s at peace. The cook is going well. He taught Jesse well. All is as it should be. Once more, CLOSE ON THE COOK VAT -- Walt’s hand rests against it like a cowboy’s hand rests on the neck of his horse. And now... the hand relaxes and slowly slips down out of frame. It leaves behind a small smear of BLOOD. BIRD’S EYE VIEW: we look straight down on Walt as he tumbles into frame, lying flat on his back on the floor. His eyes stare up at us, lifeless. And yet, his final expression is one of faint satisfaction. We slowly CRANE UP, UP and AWAY from him. Walt shrinks smaller and smaller in frame. POLICE OFFICERS approach him now -- four, six, eight of them. They move in cautiously, their guns aimed. They’re too late. He got away.”

On Alternative Number 6 for Walt's death, where Walt goes with Jesse to die somewhere peaceful, I think Walt died exactly where he wanted to be. Throughout the show, the one place that's made Walt feel truly alive, that made him proud of his abilities and his knowledge, and made him feel important, was the lab. So when he goes to the lab and looks around and then dies, I think it's perfect because he's dying in the one place where he felt the most important and proud, where he was given credit for his "art" as Jesse says. I think personally he died in the perfect place in the show.

Walt didn't do ALL of it for himself. He wasn't ALWAYS a criminal mastermind. At first he was about to die and just wanted to generate money to take care of his family after he died. Things just progressed. At a certain point he could've stopped, and he didn't. THAT he did for himself.

True, but I think having him say that would diminish the catharsis of the scene. Walt is forced to own up to reality, which he’s spent the whole show avoiding. He’s made a lot of selfish decisions throughout the show, while justifying to himself that they were the right choice to make. If he were to say, “well, I started out doing this for you, but I became selfish”, that would diminish the impact of him admitting his selfishness.

he knew it wasn’t all for him too as emotions were part of it. but in that scene the deeper meaning is that he had to say those words too, to give skyler her own closure. if he still mentions is for the family, it would make her rage and not let her emotions rest because she’d argue again that if it was for family, you’d never put everyone in the situations that they’re in now. it’ll not be a satisfying close to skyler’s chapter, for walt and for the viewers.

I view it similarly, but more that we're only just at the final episode seeing Walt at his peak potential as a criminal mastermind. This is how effective he was. He outsmarted the police on a crosscountry road trip, killed an entire gang while they had the upper hand, got money to his family, all of it with nearly minimal effort. The only episode where he truly had nothing holding him back, not his family or fear of losing their love, fear of the police, fear of Jesse turning on him, nothing at all. The moment those handicaps were gone he became ruthlessly efficient. If he didn't have cancer, this version of Walt would've killed the entire gang and still managed to evade police.

The one thing I would have liked to see is a purity tester machine like they had in Mexico in Jesse’s lab. In this case, rather than reading 96%, tying Jesse with Gale, it reads 98%, showing that Jesse has learned and improved. Gale describes the jump from 96% to 99% as a chasm, so having Jesse accomplish just shy of what Walt could do would be fitting. It wouldn’t need interaction, just a flash of a proud smile from Walt.

So it makes sense to me that he'd be upset by the idea of someone thinking he'd team up with someone like Jesse, someone who is basically his polar opposite; being a "crybaby rat" and so on

BUT Walt has had literally months to sit up in his cabin and plan this out in his head, so I can buy that maybe he would pull it off without a.hitch. especially when you consider that previously in the show when things go wrong, it tended to be because he had to come up with plans on the spot, circumstances changing at the last minute, etc. this time he's had so much time to plan, and he knows if he goes back it's not like Hank is still around to be on his heels (as it seems Hank was the only one who could ever really figure out what Heisenberg was upto and what he might do next)

So a couple of fun facts: Vince had no idea what he was going to do with the machine gun in Walt's trunk. We see S5 open with it. When he got to the writing the finale, someone reminded him and felt he had to include it. The Gretchen and Elliot scene was because of a 16 y/o fan named Kevin Cordasco. He had terminal cancer and Vince Gilligan met him. He offered to tell him how he planned for the show to end, but Kevin said he would see it himself (sadly, he did pass away before the S5 premiere) but he did ask Vince what happened with Gretchen and Elliot, which gave Vince the idea.

They did it perfectly :) From start to finish. Vince Gilligan is a god. Was fun to explore though!

Honestly seeing Walt some some of his own crystal would've been a fun and satisfying conclusion to his character, him finally knowing why people went so crazy over it then he dies shortly after

Jack taking offensive to Walter fits him pretty well. We saw him taking offense to rats multiple times. And even trying to kill Jesse after watching the tape. So Walt saying he is partnering with a rat is definitely something I could see tick him off. And just out of spite prove how wrong Walter is in his last moments

So, I just finished a rewatch of the entire series, and something you pointed out about Walt accusing Jack of partnering up with Jesse. I don't think Jack wanted Walt's respect, I think the gesture of bringing Jesse into the room was a staunch shot being taken at Walt's ego. "Not only do I have your money, your formula, and life's work. Instead of listening to you, I decided to make a better move: enslave the man you wanted me to kill. Because I'm better than you, and made all the right moves." Basically, a big F you.

I think him smoking his baby blue smiling and saying: "It's perfect." would've been cheesy but pretty cool because he aknowledges Jesses work and his recipe one last time but the ending was pretty much perfect. I really loved it and if I could I wouldn't change anything about it.

With Walt’s plan working perfectly is amazing because it shows how Walt has changed over the course of the show from being unable to plan a robbery properly to being able to massacre everybody who wronged him in the same day and at this point he’s already at the brink as his family hates him he doesn’t have his money and somebody is using his identity so everything he worked hard for was taken which is shown in how effective his plan was as he was methodical about his execution of his plan

This show was amazing. I’ve never watched anything that had me excited, pissed off, sad, all in just one show, edge of my seat ready for more. I slept on this show for forever, and when I actually started to binge. It was already done, and by the time I got done watching all of it, the beautiful makers blessed my eyes with El Camino, this show with its movie, to this day is a masterpiece.

Going in I thought all the alternative timelines for this would be terrible. But I absolutely loved the idea of him using his product as he’s going out.

Good video. You did a lot of work and formatted it well. My only disappointment was was hoping to see a scenario where Walt somehow lived and got away scot-free. I really wish that door was left open and thought it would be interesting to explore how this could be pulled off. For what it’s worth I would’ve kept everything else the same.

After visiting Skyler, he should've walked through the door, the Cops point there guns at him, a classical song plays, all sound around him is gone, you can hearloud noises of a distant Officer shouting at him, suddenly he falls down on the ground, blood on him, the camera zooms out showing the whole scene, Walt bleeding out on the ground.

I re-watched season 5 I think there should have been a extra episode in the later episodes, where it’s just seeing all of our characters going through hell because of Walt’s actions. Styler, Jessie, walt Jr, Marie all of there lives are torn because of Walter

I think Jack getting mad made sense, we saw previously how much he despises "rats", immediatly wanting to kill Jesse when he finds out he is one, so being accused of teaming up with a rat would probably mean a lot to him

Suppose Skylar had been skimming Walt’s money and had a second storage location filled with cash. She is a worrier after all. Would she really have put the entire amount in one place? This would have made the last act irrelevant as Walt finding a way to give his family money would have been completely unnecessary.

The meaning of the title “Felina” is a reference to “Blood, Meth, and Tears.” Fe is the element iron which is found in blood. Li is the element of lithium which is found in methamphetamine. Na is sodium which is found in tears.
