@seancutler67123 жыл бұрын
@Hamouda IDK about that, but the truth is that it is sometimes impossible to lie to the people that know us best. Your wife can sometimes know you better than you know yourself, and Skylar is bright enough to realize she's being snowed. Walt tricks others with his bumbling, earnest "teacherlike" personality, part of his ability to hide in plain sight is that nobody would assume this guy is a meth lord. But his wife sees him, and sees he's not acting right.
@nuncapasaran93743 жыл бұрын
The actors are so good they can act well beyond what's being said. Look in Walt's eyes when she confronts him and they have that quiet moment where they both see each other so clearly. What I see in his eyes is that he is confessing to her in his mind, he really wants to, and she can see it too, we all can because he can't hide that part of it, but then he goes with the thing they both know is a lie because he can't bring himself to tell the truth.

Walt's complete inability to find a middle ground between bold face lying and outright confession is frustrating to watch sometimes. How he ever thought complete denial in the face of overwhelming evidence would work on someone as intelligent as Skyler is beyond me. All he had to do was be honest with Skyler that there were in fact things going on with him that he wasn't ready to share with her and she would have accepted it. But instead Walt foolishly thinks he can just pull the wool over her eyes time and again and deny everything. For such a genius, he can be a real fool sometimes.

He's really really stupid in certain areas. That's why he's a great character.
@WillRock073 жыл бұрын
Walt was a book worm - dude was a genius with science and had an incredibly strategic mind. However, I think he was stupid with people. The main reason he kept Jesse around was because he knew he was good at manipulating him, but would he have been able to have that level of influence on anyone else? I think that's part of the reason he got rid of Gale as a partner early on - because he realised Gale was too smart for him to manipulate. He didn't have much sense with how some people might react to things. There are loads of instances where he's stupid with people that got him into a fuckton of trouble. He didn't have much in terms of people skills - he was never a very charismatic individual and while he developed a good method of lying to people that worked with those who didn't know him, those who did, like Skyler, Walt Jr. and later on Jesse - saw right through him every time. I think the one exception in terms of his close family he could lie to was Hank, but Hank had preconceived ideas about Walt that blinded him.
@logangantner38632 жыл бұрын
I think he probably knew that Skylar would not accept a half-confession. As soon as he admitted that he was doing something that he was hiding from her, she would not have stopped until she knew the extent of the situation. Instead, he desperately clung to the idea of appealing to any shred of doubt she felt about her accusations.
@akrockstarans2 жыл бұрын
@@WillRock07 the funny thing is Walt never actively lied to Hank in the show. He obviously hid things from him but never told him a lie. @nicolasleroux53023 жыл бұрын
Just because Walt is a bad person doesn’t mean that Skyler is off the hook. She’s honestly terrible. Instead of approaching Walt with concern and politely urging him to open up, she glares at him and shames him and insults him right out of the gate. Keep in mind that Skyler, at this point in the show, doesn’t even suspect that Walt is engaging in illegal activities. For all she knows, Walt could be hiding the fact that he’s been speaking to a therapist of a support group (activities that many men are ashamed of). Skyler never approaches Walt with kindness. She never considers the possibility that her terrible attitude is the reason why Walt doesn’t open up to her. She never even realizes how she pushed Walt away from her in Season 1 by making Walt’s diagnosis all about her. She’s just the worst.
@nicolasleroux53023 жыл бұрын
With all of that said, Skyler’s behavior AFTER Walt’s confession makes perfect sense. By getting involved with the drug cartels, Walt painted a huge target on the back of his family. Also, Skyler’s decision to screw Ted is justified because she clearly broke off her relationship with Walt beforehand. But prior to Walt’s confession, Skyler’s hostility is unacceptable.
@rafaelpascoaliczerniej2972 жыл бұрын
Honestly, all her concerns are validated once the cousins invade their house to kill Walt Her main point is that being in the meth business made her and the children potential collateral when someone comes over to kill Walt, imagine if Walter Junior or Skyler were at home when they came for Walt, based on the assassination attempt on Hank the cousins dont tend to leave witnesses

And if he also pushed the fact why he had started it all in the first place - like, for the family and because he's running out of a life time, which you can't but sympathize with, at least a little..... idk, maybe it's unrealistic, but the possibility of them repairing their relationship and becoming a happy family of drug dealers is just melting my heart lmao.....

A beautiful scene that explores the nature of trust. "Walt" (Heisenberg) thinks he has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there's nothing fishy going on behind Skyler's back, and then she'll trust him again. On the contrary, Skyler doesn't want proof of anything: she simply wants him to stop lying to her. She knows that he's lying. She's known him for a very long time--intimately--and she simply knows that he is being untruthful. About what, it doesn't really matter. Walt thinks trust is something you reward to another person, and that if you lose someone's trust, you have to "win it back" by presenting a clear-cut case. Skyler understands that trust is an inward feeling; one simply decides to trust. One can never know beyond a shadow of a doubt that someone else isn't doing something wrong. But one knows if the other person is lying. Trust is a state of mind, not an honor granted. "Walt" (Heisenberg) cannot grasp this.

That's not to say she didn't have an ample amount of reasons to be upset with, and suspicious of Walt..but she was still just annoying as all Hell.
