You noticed the mirror reflection thing and got it spot on. The best people can tell about the story is that the woman died and he is reading her diary after the fact going through the pages trying to find what she wrote about him, only to find out that she never wrote about him at all. The song is about him thinking he was important to this girl and finding out she didn't care about him at all. "Die for anyone, what have I become", Asking for validation alot. He is desperate to know he mattered to her and questioning how much he cared to be unreciprocated. The "Die for anyone, what have i become" part is the only "scream" among the lyrics if you dont count the end of the "how it should be" parts. It signifies stronger emotion in that line, thats what is killing him the most about the entire situation is it being unreciprocated and him questioning how he got to this point. "Die for anyone" specifically means that he would die for anyone, a mixture of not valuing yourself at all or valuing everyone else above you, but also for the purpose of desperately wanting to matter to anyone. "...what have I become" immediately following it is the "how did it come to this" question that immediately follows that. "I will try to find my place in the diary of jane" and he isn't there at all. Imagine the pain of loving someone that much up until they die, and then finding out after they're gone that they didn't care about you at all. Not even enough to mention you.

I have gone through that situation, I have also gone through a moment similar to that of Jane and Benjamin, honestly you could not have said it better, I do not value myself, simply for the approval of a woman, I feel That I break, in this case it is not a diary in which I do not find myself, but in the heart of that girl.
