My take is: LET'S GO! But also, it may be a bit of a bargain for the team for the first few years, but then in the later years, it's likely gonna be more in the favor of Will. So all-in-all, I like the deal, and I like that they're locking up one of the best offensive catchers in the league for a long time.

Baseball is a funny game sometimes. You will not find a person on planet Earth that would say Will Smith is on Ohtani's level but getting Smith for 10 years for what Ohtani cost for 2 years is crazy. I'm not quite sure what the thought process is here for Smith. The Braves have made locking up young studs long term on team friendly deals an art form and other teams clearly were paying attention and following their lead but even with that this seems very cheap. Don't get me wrong I don't have love the guy (after his little bitching moment last year when he took offense to a Marcell Ozuna backswing. Like the whole league didn't already know about his swing and like it wasn't the catchers job to make sure he is back far enough) but he has been good for them and especially at the catching position and 14 mil a year in what will inevitably be his only big contract seems like way to much of a discount. We're talking almost Ozzie Albies contract territory, the biggest steal in baseball history 30hr / 100 rbi a season at second base for 7 years/36 mil by the way.

The length of the contract for a catcher is concerning. Five years, maybe. But ten? I would guess that management is viewing a move to first once Freeman's deal runs out, but will Smith's bat still be worthy of the first base position in his mid-to-late thirties? Unless Friedman plans to move Smith in two years while he is still productive as a catcher, this contract seems unnecessarily long.

I think lux, cartaya and another player for adames would be a good deal for both. The reality is there really isn't any top shortstops available besides adames and dodgers clearly don't have anybody they can bring up for that position so just make the trade because hearing day after day about errors from lux, muncy and mookie is super annoying already.

At present, the Brewers don’t want to trade Adames. If they did, I think it would’ve already been done. I imagine the Brewers want to see where they are at the trade deadline. That’ll also give the Dodgers a chance to see how things are progressing with Lux and Mookie.
