@@evanhammond7305 that's funny, really. AJ is the worst when it comes to language when she's set up on a fish or something goes wrong. I am always too keenly aware of the camera and the audience to let loose and talk like I would otherwise... and on days like yesterday I end up editing the color with either bird song or music ;) :) Not sure even the internet is ready for Alberta speak ;)

Even on a big productive river like Montana's Smith there a single large brown that my nephew and some of his friends have caught. Usually in the same prime feeding spot in the River, it's been fun to see it on Insta, FB ...over the years.

it's neat when we pay attention to this kind of thing and it really drives home just how few of the "fish we're really hunting" there are, how population pyramid dynamics have never really lied about carrying capacity & ecosystem productivity. :)

So being out in the middle of nowhere, do you ever run into bears, moose etc? Do you carry bear spray when you go?

not as often on the water, actually. More on the hike/bike in/out. Air horns and spray are always on board with the grizz territory. :)

I was flyfishing in the middle of a river, looked upstream, and there was a bear swimming across about 50ft upstream. Thankfully just a smaller black bear, but it freaked me out that it blended in with the river noise until it was that close.

@@skyiswomb1@skyiswomb1 it's incredible how close we can be and not hear or see animals! We had a lab back when we owned Fortress Lake retreat and day I'd been digging a grey water pit, walked to the lake and come back when the cover had come off. I leaned down to pick it up and my dog bolted about 8' to the other side of the willow and chased a decent sized black bear out of camp. Just crazy close. Thank goodness my 70lb lab had my back! 🤣

Funny story about this creek... it has exactly the mature fish in it that you see in this video plus two others that were more transient to the main due to the severe drought. Guess how that's known? More people need to spend more time observing and getting to know what's really going on. 🍻

your thought promoting opening to this video is challenging to those jurisdictions that oversee our fisheries, ecology vs numbers and sensitive waters it disappointing when your national body promotes the fishery as a food source with out giving attention to the variety of waters and their ability to support fish life, NZ 2024 its a worry
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 11 ай бұрын
It was a very deliberate topic of inclusion here to hopefully gently lead people to consider their own waters and make realizations to. If Amelia & I so dedicated ourselves I am sure we alone could literally fish out most of the fish in the vast majority of the streams we fish in a calendar year. The elephant in the room of the whole #rewildnz campaign this year is the deliberate blind eye to carrying capacities of the majority of trout streams in NZ. We'd say the day of reckoning is here & now for NZ trout given the devastating turn to trout eradicating floods and droughts/heat waves the past few years. Between human impact/consumption and the shift to devastating habitat shifts in the environment and land use impacts, there may very well be a static ability for trout to continue to produce at current levels. The threshold to downward change is extremely thin here and we may just be beginning to see its impact.

I feel like you fish too small of waters...I fish West Coast Oregon fish and its very different almost like you have an advantage that's not to me fishing...they don't have the chance..I'm sorry it's just not the same to me

Hmm, so on one video you misrepresent and don't hear the discussion regarding spawning as it was presented and now you don't like that we fish small waters in some our videos. We're us and love what we do and share that and do a diversity of waters and engagements for interesting moments and engagements with trout - if you don't like it why post negatively? Maybe learn to appreciate and enjoy what we do and share or take ownership that maybe what we do isn't for you? All the best.
