The version I want to see is still on the cutting room floor. I’ve said to Ben before that it’s common knowledge Reggie Nalder wasn’t happy as most of Barlows scenes were cut. I believe for the same reason they cut gore out, to make it able to pass the censors as suitable for television

@John R sorry to disagree but I believe your wrong. Reggie Nalder gave a interview were he said he was disappointed as most of his scenes were cut but the money he was paid more than made up for his disappointment. Plus there are lots of pictures around and in books/ articles of in film shots of Barlow from scenes definitely not in any of the cuts of the film. Unless you work for Warner Brothers and have access to the reels you can’t say there is no additional footage and I definitely can’t say there is, although the clue suggest there might be

Hi Guys, yet another wonderful video. It's great after so many tears to hear how much this wonderful mini-series affected us all to this day. Like Ben said I thought back then I was the only one obsessed with it so years later is lovely to hear everyone's experiences etc. Here in the Uk, it was aired in 81 and I still have it in its 2 parts which was taped over the two nights but had to record it again on the second part without the recap due to the VHS tape being 180mins. We got the movie version on tv not long after and like the shotgun scene the added scene with Norton hanging impaled by the antlers we didn't get in the series. Think as Sam said you just got his face up close when he slumps down. Also, I've said to Ben recently it's also a place as a kid before knowing it was Ferndale that I wanted to hang out in, so another reason for rewatching was because ei just loved that town and it felt like somewhere I wanted to be. The old VHS which my sister taped in 81 is so worn after I watched it so often I'd be scared to check it out again as it might snap. Again, great video Danny and would be lovely to hang out with you all one day and chat over a beer about our love for this wonderful mini-series. Lastly again, I've come across many people saying it was too long and boring but to me, that's madness as even as a kid I liked the slow build-up with the characters instead of a lot of people's short attention span and having to have more gore or swearing etc to make it better :) Look forward to more of your great input and thank you for making my life a little better ;)

Brilliant video guys! What a movie the three hour version is. It’s been so long since I saw the 112 minute cut I can’t really remember much but it must have been missing a lot. So weird that I just introduced my g/f to this movie this October, and it's getting so much discussion. Honestly, I kind of hope we are done with the remakes because they'll always pale to the original for me. I did really want there to a series, which seemed to be hinted at the end of the film, with Mark and Ben on the run from the vampires. Even King said he "didn't think it was over in the Lot" but apparently he's not going to write a sequel. And the loss of Lance Kerwin really hit hard. He was on TV just about all the time in my youth, and he always projected a real sense of decency and sincerity. I bet at least some of that came from Mark himself. Anyway, cool video and thanks for your efforts!
@DannyEverything101 Жыл бұрын
A sequel would have been a lot of fun to watch. I would love to see Stephen King write a sequel, but I'm not sure he ever will. I'm with you on the remakes, but I just heard there's an Exorcist reboot in the works. Not sure these are good ideas.

Watched it first on the BBC in 1983, and videoed it in 1985. The only difference apart from the Bill death and the end credits of part 1 that I can see between the release now and the miniseries is the transition in the cellar. When the original miniseries aired there was a seamless transition between them arriving in the cellar and the next scene. It’s more protracted in its current release. This may have been the result of the BBC editing it as it wouldn’t have had adverts.

When I saw it with my little brother and had the aforementioned waterbed bedwetting incident w whole famdamily in the bed, it was the video store version, we rented it. My sisters logic being “it was on tv and only PG rated so surely it’s fine for 12 and 9 y o kids.” The killer East winds that come off the Wasatch mountains in Utah, causing the branches to scrape the window all night was either awesome or awful depending on viewpoint haha. This would have been 1983, I had no knowledge or viewing of SL before that. That’s something my parents would have hidden or banned us from watching. Though my Dad did show the Changeling from 1980 at a Sunday school party sleepover and the parents were pissed because it freaked the kids out. I loved it. In fact, talked him into renting that one and “When a stranger calls” Both good horror movie from my childhood. Changeling starring George C Scott. My parents knew I was different at age 8 when I wanted a ceramic lifelike skull instead of Mickey ears at Disneyland in 1979. The trip my teenaged sister and I were stalked by Rodney Alcala in Anaheim. He killed 2 girls within weeks and 2 miles where he aggressively stalked us. Debi Kent, a family friend and my sister was supposed to be there the night she was taken by Ted Bundy from Viewmont High in Bountiful. Her mom Belva and my mom are still friends today. She left the porch light on every day since, so sad. A bunch of my nonfiction short stories (hobby) include these incredible incidents. Sounds like total BS, but actually happened to us. I wrote a short story about that incident too. When my mom said I could buy a record, and I chose Ozzy Diary of a Madman with that horror themed cover was another “what’s wrong w this kid” moment. Danny, Ben, I can relate to so much of yer content and stories Re your background. I’m in PNW and would enjoy getting together sometime in the future. Hope all y’all are well. Stay frosty, stay aerodynamic. To the guy in Portland, if ever in Seattle hit me up. I’ll show u some Seattle hospitality. The museum of flight or submarine museum in Bremerton is higher priority than space needle or other touristy things. IMHO. medium.com/@Dr.Shitzengiggles/the-bedwetter-frame-job-d1b0a561bd94

Anyone who has or had that old Cinefantastique magazine one of the guys was holding up will know there is a page in the mag that shows a still of Ned Tebbets in his cell with Barlow shown from behind rushing into the cell. The same still i think was reproduced in Tony Earnshaw's fabulous book. This would seem to be a deleted scene from the mini series, as its not in the full-length version that was shown on tv, in two parts in 1979.

In kings source material Cully puts his shotgun in Larry's mouth, not just in front of his face. He tells Larry to open his mouth, then in goes the gun. Either way, the dudes a goner. Tobe Hooper pointed this out in his excellent blueray commentary track.

I think you have this mixed up. Danny was the one that got out of the woods. After Danny was found they hardly seem to be concerned about Ralphie ,who was still missing. After Danny died they should of had a scene of the parents being sad that Danny is dead and Ralphie is missing. That's the one thing atbout the movie I didn't like.
@sskoog2 жыл бұрын
The other Ralphie-Glick pajama interpretation -- much as I shudder even to type it here -- is that Straker and Barlow, uhh, enjoyed extra shenanigans with Ralphie's corpus by way of Satanic rites or unhallowed ground for occupancy, or whatever. The book certainly hints at something like this; but I think Tobe Hooper himself favored the "manipulative illusion" theory. Note that Ralphie is back in his normal kid-clothes when lying on the ground in Barlow's root cellar.

True, it's hard to even think about, but Barlow and Straker are pretty sick in the book.

The 2004 version, while not better than the original, is far better than the new movie. The 2004 version incorporated many good scenes from the novel that were missing in Hooper's version and it was nice to see the more human type Barlow, played perfectly by Rutger Hauer. But sure, Nalder's Barlow was terrific and Alexander Ward's Barlow, being similar in appearance, was also terrific. I do understand most of the reasons you guys were not happy about the 2004 version, and while there were changes and moments, and especially the cell phones and Internet references, that didn't really work, it's still pretty solid and has some genuine scary scenes. To call it lame is not fair. I liked it more than the new movie which was entertaining but a bit of a let down and not that scary,...except for the Barlow scenes. The 2004 version dared to be darker and more provoking, and also more gory than the other two versions, so...I rest my case

You might at one time think that because of the multiple screams you hear as the fire is full blaze in that area... Would make sense. Funny how things like that happen when you're young and it never leaves you.
