If I had to guess Swaymans camp is probably saying if they want him for 8 years then it’s gotta be 10 mil but if they won’t go higher than 8 mil then he probably wants 3-4 years. Cap is going up and if he’s making 8 million when he’s 30 he’ll most likely be considered underpaid.

Saros just signed to 7.74, Sorokin 8.25, Hellebuyck 8.5, all of which are proven better goaltenders. Swayman can pack his bags and leave if we wants more than them.

Raw numbers are irrelevant. Look at the percentage of cap. 8x8 is lowballing with a rising cap. Boston management knows that the fans don't see it that way because fans don't realize the cap is now chasing revenue. So now fans can be like "wtf, why isn't he taking 64 mill?" Open market, Swayman is easily 10+. If he's available, half the teams in the NHL would offload contracts to make room at that. You pay superstars what they want and nickel and dime on the rest of the roster.
