It’s a shame that Zindagi Tamasha can’t be released, we see many silly experimental cinema but why not any issue based. I bet there’s nothing sinister about anyone in this movie.I would have loved to watch it here, in cinemas across UK. Film fraternity should have a legal bench for them, it’s high time now!! Talents like Sarmad and others can’t be bullied in this way, we are heading no where any mob can threat any producer/director and all there sweat, blood and expenses goes down the drain... Really saddened by the news😢

This reminds me so much of Padmaavat. (Just heard Hasaan mention this as well.) Also, for the record, let me say that the admittedly loud religio-political voices you hear of don't speak for all of us in India. I'm not sure if you're following the CAB/NRC movement, but there is an overwhelming number of people who believe in secularism and equality.

This reminds me of an art exhibition, held in Karachi, a couple of months back, expressing solidarity with the families of 400 extra judicial killings by the famous policeman. It was ransacked by our holy cow agency . The exhibition was attended by 200 foreign artists. Articles later appeared in foreign newspapers exposing every thing. Such tactics usually back fire.😊 Then we complain about FATF and blame conspiracies.

Absolutely, it was Adeela Suleman's exhibit against Rao Anwar, responsible for the "police encountered killings" of 400 people. But unfortunately, a disgraced former SSP has more klout in Pakistan than a regular hard working filmmaker.

I live in Los Angeles and over the past year have been an ardent admirer of Pakistani drama for their amazing quality (for the most part) of acting, story and direction - but ABOVE ALL that the content is all clean! My mother and I have switched over from Bollywood (we were born and raised in Bombay) because most of their films have become unnecessarily vulgar. I recently came upon Something Haute and enjoy your input and presentation immensely. This Zindagi Tamasha Controversy makes me so sad and disappointed on many levels but the one at the forefront is I feel this is yet another example of so called religious and self-righteous zealots BULLYING the rest of society. The censors cleared the film but the cowards are afraid to stand behind their call. This is what is happening all over the world now. Religion is being misinterpreted and fiercely represented by bullies who use violence to scare people into cowed down submission. Political leaders are also afraid of the ignorant masses who take to the streets in violent protest. Bad things can only happen when good people do nothing! It is time for truly good believers of the CORRECT VERSION of any religion to stand up and be counted! I look forward to seeing Zindagi Tamasha on Netflix or Amazon Prime!

As soon as this film releases, I am going to the cinema and watch it just to show my support to the Independent Film making in particular and Liberal minded Pakistan in general. This government is nothing more than bunch of shameful losers -both Sindh and Punjab/federal- they are bowing down to most ignorant and third class mentality that doesn't even have any big support. If these hundred thousand TLP goons are pressure enough for the government I wonder what would they do if any real political party starts any campaign against them.

Amna, I think that they intentionally chose to present the character as someone who is religiously looked up to. I think Khoosat has done the very fine job of not picking a character which is too intensely Islamic, like a scholar. Btw, I love this channel’s videos, Hassan’s inputs are hilarious.. ‘Pagal ka bacha.. limited Akal’ LOL - adds some humour to this depressing (but interesting) topic x

Such a good discussion. Btw I read somewhere that MPTH was modified to appease mullahs. Originally there was no nikah between shahwar and mehwish. Maham finds mehwish in her bedroom and marofies chappair. There was no nikkah and no friends which also explains why mehwish didn’t end up going with her friend to her place. Because in the screenplay, the friend wasn’t there at all!! In the special show, the actress playing the friend actually mentioned it and said that KRQ should clarify(which he didn’t because )

Oh my God this whole episode is giving me deja vu.... The protests, cuts, sensor board it all eerily resembles the track of Padmavat. No matter how much we hate each other, it proves we're essentially the same. On the basis of trailer, rumours, herd mentality we're all too quick to jump the gun. Why can't we first see the movie and then pass our judgements (I'm speaking for both india and pak)? FYI guys Padmavat went on to do great business and earned praises. So let's hope that since Zindagi tamasha so far has taken the same track, I hope it will be loved by the audiences.

Commercially, I think it would be best to release it either or Netflix or Amazon Prime. However, that should just be the last resort, because if the filmmakers give in to the pressure of a supposed "political party" once then that would set a precedent and would probably halt the revival of Pakistani Cinema. Also, if I am not wrong I think Amna mentioned that the film will probably be also be reviewed by the members of that supposed "political party". My question is what are there qualifications? Are they Islamic scholars? Do they have any degree in the subject from a reputable institution? Are they educated or sensible enough to understand the subtle nuances, which will probably in Sarmad Khoosat film? While I understand that we are Islamic nations and there are certain things which are objectionable or hurt the sentiments of conservatives we are also a democracy. I really think to have a certain education must be made mandatory to become a politician. Sorry for the rant but I never expected these kinds of things in 2020 and that too from PTI government.

One thing I never understand that why it has to be a Naat khawan? Why it is not a fashion designer or a film maker? This movie won an award somewhere as you guys mentioned because it was targeting an ISLAMIC religious person. Most important thing is that this world is not educated enough regarding Islam that they can separate Islam from human errors or mistakes that a muslim does. What happened with molvis? Now everybody make fun of them. Make jokes on them because of some bad molvis shown on tv and films. Non muslims target Islam when they talk about molvis or mullas. Now with Naat khawan, same thing is going to happen. In disguise of criticizing Naat khawans, the Personality of Prophet Muhammad (صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم) will be targeted(نعوذ باللّٰہ).As I said, this world is not educated enough to separate Islamic teachings and a muslim's individual act of violence/shame. So, why not deal with these issues on a local level instead of showcasing it on an international level.

Ok my comment is related to your week/weekend in review videos. Posting it here and not your weekend since I want you guys to read this. I look forward to your reviews and discussions sometimes more than the actual dramas you review. Absolutely love you both. Stylishly you are both very different and we all love Hasans wit and candor. But i also think Pakistani people in general have a very low tolerance for critique. I can’t imagine a show like SNL surviving 1 season in Pakistan because people will be immediately offended and take stuff personally. So yeah. I guess I am just saying that be a little cautious. You don’t want to burn bridges with these content creators. I, for example, agree a 100% with hasans views about IZN. But I am just an invisible person behind my phone and my livelihood will not be impacted my views. In light of the issues facing sarmad, I worry . Anyways, just saying this because I care about you guys.

There needs to be tolerance, true. But I think we need to come out of our ‘liberal bubble’. and see that we live in a country like Pakistan. The film touched ‘blasphemous’ subject in the initial trailer, which they later removed, hence the controversy. I mean why? Knowing it’s such a sensitive topic. Instead of venting about it later, I think we should keep all these factors in mind before making such movies. You are going to release it to the general public. Ofcourse there’s going to be a backlash.
@user-pf3vz3rd9h4 жыл бұрын
There was a clip of a so called molvi threatening to frame him the protagonist for "blasphemy" which was a very brave attempt on Sarmad's part to show a mirror to this extremist/self righteous cult that exists in Pakistan. There was nothing offensive about it but to those who actually go around claiming to be God chosen authority in this country so please keep your sentiments to yourself. If there was something offensive people would have objected to it after watching it. Let people decide what they want to watch instead of TLP goons
@Aqsaa2864 жыл бұрын
NotYourTherapist excuse me, but who are you to tell me to keep my sentiments to myself ? If you are going to touch a topic like blasphemy in Pakistan and expect everything to be ok, then you need to get out of your ‘liberal bubble’ and get a reality check. Knowing that it’s such a sensitive topic, why would you chose to make a movie around this topic.

Government doesn’t want to deal with all the demonstrations on the streets against Sarmad and if some one shoots Sarmad then what? Don’t think Pakistani awam are brave enough to defend Sarmad. All activism is limited to drawing rooms and key boards. The religious political parties still have more street power. Btw love you two!! Always on point!

I hope you don't get backlash from some ignorant people. Pakistani society is suffocating. So anything remotely related to religion can be very problematic. People can take it negatively and claim it as blasphemy without any evidence. We can't ask any questions or give constructive criticism. Freedom of thought never existed in Pakistan.

Censor board ko kahan namunasib laga? They cleared it, it's TLP or whatever the right wing nuts society is that has the problem.

I don't even know what to say. All I know is that this should not be happening. I feel sad for Sarmad and the whole team. It's depressing to see how intolerant we are. We have no tolerance for ideas/opinions we do not agree with or rather we're just ignorant towards new ideas. Ya shaid yeh sirf jahalat hai. Jo bhi hai, ghalat hai. All my love and support to the team of Zindagi Tamsha and anyone who still cares about art. Stay strong.

Yaar... Just go release on Netflix or in foreign cinemas. You can't touch any topics like these. Even in India they opt for Netflix to get away with censorship.
