We also have a small pond that is visited by migrating fowl, Mallards and Canada Geese mostly, plus an enormous number of wild turkeys that come by daily. This last Spring, in short succession, my hens died. As I , with gloved hands, gathered the dead birds for dumping far off on my property I saw that as I lifted the bodies by their feet thick fluid dripped from their mouth and beak. A sure sign, I was told, of pneumonia associated with "bird flue". Please everybody, stock up on your N-95 masks now. In B.C. 🇨🇦, we have had a 13 year old girl hospitalized in B.C. Childrens’ Hospital in critical condition. After 2 months in ICU, she has recovered and just been discharged. It was the Avian Influenza virus that she had, also. Like all viruses that originally jump from animals to humans, it is very virulent. Perhaps as Covid- 19 did, it will become milder as it mutates to different strains. We can hope. 🇨🇦🍁

Ive noticed people say it's SO deadly but quite a few have gotten it and recovered fine. If it's THAT prevalent in birds in the UK and other countries, wouldn't it already be killing people all over? Millions of people around the world have backyard flocks of chickens or other fowl. I was all in for safety precautions for covid, but this one smells fishy. I believe it's killing birds for sure, but it doesnt track that people can pick it u from birds and it has a 55% fatality rate, or even much worse that regular flu strains when dairy workers get it and recover. Top headline fromn a google search: "As of January 6, 2025, there have been 66 confirmed human cases of H5N1 in the United States in 2024. Most of these cases have been mild and have not resulted in hospitalization or death." What gives?

I would argue that human to human transmission rates are low because of the small number of cases of bird to human is low...once the virus mutates in it's human host, it will be easily transmitted to others and could end up being worse than covid...and I am unaware of any vaccine that would prevent or protect the population from being ravaged by it regardless of the fatality rates.
@lunawolfking13409 сағат бұрын
I have a feeling one of the big reasons this will spread will be people who have had backyard flocks for a long time and don’t feel like the precautions are needed to protect their flock. I say this as the daughter of a retired farmer with his backyard chickens. He’s walking through our house with shoes he just wore in the poop covered coops. He’s letting our pup jump into the coop and only washing her paws after in the same tub me and him use. Sometimes I’ve even caught him washing eggs in our kitchen sink instead of the laundry sink. He also keeps setting cartons down in the coops then setting them on my baking supplies. It’s not going to be public gatherings that spread it this time. It’s going to be people who think it won’t effect them and then not bothering to minimize their exposure
@YaelTiferet2 сағат бұрын
That's what it was last time, they just went to public gatherings because they felt like that.

If people actually saw, with their own physical eyes, the facilities where animals are processed/slaughtered for human consumption, they would see what actually goes into it and what they are getting in their grocery stores. It's disgusting, and horrific. Tyson is one of the largest, and worst of them all. When people buy their eggs, pork chops, ground beef, steaks, chicken wings, ribeye, milk, and so on..........they are only seeing it all as a commodity. These animals live in and endure mass trauma. They do not live well, they are only living to die. Many of these animals are sick, standing in filthy conditions, spreading various forms of disease, eating waste that is literally fed to them, crammed into tight spaces....and that doesn't even include what they go through mentally. If you don't believe any of that, educate yourself. There are MANY undercover videos showing all of this. An older documentary to watch is 'Meet Your Meat'. And since that was filmed, things have only become worse, not better. Animals in all forms are sentient beings. Even crab and lobsters feel pain when they are boiled alive. People are gluttonous, and want what they want without consideration of other beings. If meat is non-negotiable at the dinner table, then at least buy from local farms where animals are raised well and have good living conditions; grass fed and free range and clean acres to roam. Chickens that are supposedly cage-free are living in very cramped facilities inside a barn structure. Not outside in fresh air. They pass diseases between each other. Baby cows are literally ripped away from their mothers to be processed as veal. The mother cows visibly grieve and mourn them. Baby pigs are also killed and sold for meat. People will eat anything these days without regard to any living creature. It's not even a matter of survival, but just because they can and feel so righteous about it. The meat processing facilities are vile. Chickens crammed into cages they never leave and fed grain that fatten them up fast, and their feet grow around the wires of the cage. Eggs are so expensive now because so many chickens are killed because of bird flu and so the cost has to go up to cover those losses. It happens very frequently that pigs are mass dumped into huge pits and then buried alive to kill them if/when swine flu is reported. EDUCATE YOURSELF. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I am conscious. I've come from meat at every meal (3x a day nearly every day) to maybe twice a week, and I pay extra for meat that came from a source that raises their animals in humane and healthy ways that respects the animal. Even still, I am headed towards a personal choice to be vegetarian.....there are sooooo many food choices out there that can be an alternative for meat. If I can't afford good quality meat, I skip it. Eggs, cheese, milk and creams, can be better sourced too. I saw egg prices in Kroger's and Walmart the other day at about $11 per dozen. I buy mine for $3.99 from a local chicken farm, and the chickens live well and have excellent living conditions. There are local farmers in every state. I don't have a problem with the foods that animals produce that doesn't harm them or their lives.....like eggs and milk. Organic means nothing to the quality of their life, it just means (generally) that they aren't given antibiotics, or growth hormones. But even that can't be trusted when it comes to the major processing plants. EDUCATE YOURSELF. Animals deserve so much better from us. Learn about what you are eating. At the very least.
@frederickmiller54929 сағат бұрын
i agree with you completely - but, as we have learned recently - there are a ton of Americans who are seriously lazy. They want quick, cheap and easy. These same people also like to complain - about everything. Education is key and most people just get on tiktok to research their issues - it's frightening.
@debbiewall21609 сағат бұрын
Animal ag checks off all of the boxes for conditions that will lead to the next pandemic. We need to end the billions of dollars in subsidies to this industry, transition to a plant-based food system and make compassionate, efficient, sustainable and heathy plant foods affordable and available to all. And, until the system changes, we have an opportunity to either contribute to or solve the problem . . . 3 X's a day . . . by making mindful choices about what we eat. Thank-you for taking the time to educate folks on what happens to our fellow animals who are caught up in our food system. I hope they all take the time to read it. I immediately stopped eating meat when I met a little calf and realized they were no different than a dog . . . 46 years ago and have been vegan for 6 years.

I agree with you. I have seen several of these documentaries and it’s appalling the way these poor animals are raised. I have also seen how much food is thrown out due to being outdated. I try to avoid farm raised seafood and fish also as that’s a disgusting practice also. Our food industry needs a huge overhaul.
