You want work, pay up. If I’m doing your job but can’t even afford rent, I’m probably not going to put much effort in. If I have to haul my ass to an office to waste my day, probably going to put in even less effort. Less perks=less production. I don’t give a damn about your company or its bottom line. I worked for an international oil company. I was an engineering specialist, providing services to all the refineries in North and South America for certain technologies. In 2003, our CEO decided to cut our head office space by 57% and allow workers to work from home or any other location. Of course, not all workers were given this option, since some jobs required people to be present in office. For engineering design work, all I needed was a laptop, internet and a roof over my head. I had instant access to live operating data of all processing units at all refinery locations. I attended meetings virtually, gave training courses virtually, and if face-to-face meetings were required, I'd be there whether they were in Houston, Calgary, New Orleans, Buenos Aires, or Port Arthur. I was on call 24/7 for any emergencies anywhere in the Americas. I worked far, far more efficiently at home, working many more hours than required, including weekends. There was no way I could slack off. In fact my company recognized my work ethic and achievements with insanely high bonusses and stock options. Not everyone was suited for remote work. Many of my colleagues refused to work from home since they knew they didn't have the self-discipline to do so and preferred the office environment.

The only thing that put downward pressure on prices is decreased demand. We currently have supply that meets or exceeds our demand. So please explain why oil and gas prices are so high - if not for corporate price gouging. The oil barrons were making trillions in profit per quarter; and none of that trickled down. Go figure.

Because there is zero reason to not have work from home in fact, America has a real quality of life, work life balance with your with your home and raising children issue.so it was a fantastic means of being able to work from home and take care of your kids. @geelangfordo3272 I don't think this is true. Companies that are going to use office space is going to do so. And they can't force companies that aren't to choose to rent. Thus, when push comes to shove, there will always be companies downsizing their office because it will be cheaper to do so. Or at least, those that don't just have a 50~ year lease so they "technically" lose out because that office space is already paid for. Forcing people back into the office doesn't really change either of those situations: only the fact that people drive less due to remote work changes things.
@Adyen1123419 сағат бұрын
@@SupportSpecialists But this isn't a reason. Trump can't force companies to rent or purchase office space - thus saying that "people working from home reduces real estate prices" doesn't really mean anything. Think about it: By that logic, they would need to *force* every company that want to do business in the US to have an office in the US: and they can't do that. There are literally companies that only has a website and delivers to the US - if they tried to make it so that all those companies must have an office, they would just find loopholes around it anyways by either getting a PO box or buying something cheap somewhere anyways.

Congress passed the Telework Act in 2000 (PL 106-346) mandating federal employees work from alternate duty stations as much as possible. The idea was to save money from leasing so many government buildings, which is honestly a ridiculous amount. Agencies been teleworking at least 20 years. This didn't start during the pandemic - it was highlighted during that time. Obama signed the telework enhancement act in 2010 to have agencies provide data and better manage the flexibilities. These folks know about the telework act that their party passed. These people are pandering. Yes, drain the swamp... minimize waste... manage telework. But having feds back in office is just going to make more traffic and raise insurance and gas prices for the struggling folks that voted for Trump hoping for a lower cost of living.
