Remember you can’t have any part of the building below ground level. Even with a road between the grass and the floor of the barn, hydrostatic pressure will push water up through the floor of the barn.. You won’t be able to store hay in it. I would check out KZbin channel RR Building, they specialize in barns. When you watch their videos you will notice that every pole is elevated over ground level. Then you can fill in with gravel.

If you all just start driving where you are going to put your road, by the time you are done building the barn, the road will have pretty much established itself. You are going to be making a lot of trips with a lot of different vehicles during the build. Mark your road and drive it and it will make itself. The places that need tractor work will show up as everyone drives it. 😃

Sure seems like you would be ahead of the game to hire someone who knows what they are doing and who has the equipment needed to build your barn. The way to keep water out of your barn is to have it higher than the surrounding ground.

Just by he way, a south side road will melt off sooner in winter. On the north side, the barn will shade the road and it won't melt off as fast, and it may pack down to ice. Looking forward to seeing how you do this. It seems unconventional to me so far. Normally, wouldn't you scrape off all the sod and topsoil from the pad footprint, plus some around the edges, then make a level, elevated pad for the whole footprint, and grade all around for runoff and access? Looking forward to seeing what you do! Thanks.

I get that,,,It's a lovely view,,We live opposite a Very Pretty River called the Heathcote River Followed by the view of our beloved port hills in some countrys these would be called Mountains,,,Here in Christchurch New Zealand,,,,I could not live in a normal street once you've lived with a view,,there's no going back, I never get sick of watching the ducks , Herons,,Pukekos,,fish and eels,,small frogs,,People coming to feed them with their young kiddies,,walking their dogs or just walking along here plus all other sort's of birds,,we here in New Zealand do not have snakes,,skunks other weird rodent's that are around this world,, A bee or wasp sting is about as bad as it get's here...When we do visit Australia I'm quite shocked and thankful that we do not have Huge Spiders,,snakes and all sort's of things that can bite you,,makes me realise how lucky I am to get back home and appreciate how great it is to live where we can sit for hours just watching the beauty outside our house...

Josh, it looks good. Question on the road placement: do you need to be concerned about the road and winter weather? Where I live, winter and ice and north facing garages/driveways, it can be an issue. South facing melts off faster and rairly needs plowing. Have fun
