Honestly just let trade go thru it’s just I uncomfortable for both guys who got traded to go back anyways . I don’t think it’s something wrong with Williams I think lakers realize they offer alot but if yall think he yall franchise center let it go picks won’t be valuable anyways and you sent out 2 picks and one of them is a swap
@joe8625
@joe8625 13 сағат бұрын
@@PoppaTheeGoat2 Completely agree. I think it's more the durability of Mark over the next 5-10 years they were unconfident in, they didn't say any specific issue. He had been playing 30 minutes a night for the Hornets, obviously they cleared him medically. Malpractice is highly unlikely. Lakers knew they wanted a guy who can play the 5 next to Luka for a decade to come. They gave up a lot and likely realised they weren't confident in his durability long term. To me if this is the case, I don't see how it is ok to fail his medical based off of the potential lack of durability. I think they need to provide specifics on what they are concerned about and the evidence behind how this affects his durability. This stuff is probably being discussed behind the scenes but the situation is more than likely not what a lot of fans think it is.

Nah, guys. Don't panic. As long as Mark Williams has ANY body issues - literally ANY, like tendon problems or back problems (which curiously the Lakers did not apparently flag) or knee problems that the Hornets did not flag as well - the Lakers would be given all rights to rescinding. Just saying. Each team's "physical exam" has different parameters and standards. What passes for another team might be different for another team, like that Isaiah Thomas trade with Cavs and Celtics. If the Lakers' medical team flagged anything of Williams as "not good", it should be legally enough reason to wave off the trade no matter the Hornets' kvetching. This is the Hornets merely trying to save face.
@joe8625
@joe8625 13 сағат бұрын
"each team's "physical exam" has different standards and parameters" - Exactly. Mark was obviously cleared by the Hornets medical team for him to being playing 30 minutes a night. I don't agree with people calling malpractice on the hornets end. Obviously the Hornets believed Mark was healthy. I believe the Lakers weren't confident with him long term. Who knows what the other 28 medical staffs would have said. I wonder, if Mark wasn't in the Lakers long term plans and they gave up less, would they have kept him? I do believe the price they payed and them wanting a franchise 5 long term next to Luka goes into the decision to fail him.
@jmason0622
@jmason0622 13 сағат бұрын
@ likely yes they would’ve kept Mark. Most teams always insist on the medical report, but they all weigh based on opinion - usually based on value acquired and value given away. Has Mark been swapped for Dalton+Cam as is without picks, I assume the Lakers would’ve kept Mark despite their medical findings.
@joe8625
@joe8625 13 сағат бұрын
@ Good comment man. I appreciate someone actually being rational. There is a weird narrative going on, when what is going on likely isn't that complicated. I guess what this makes me think is that physicals should be done by an independent doctor. Because if what occurred here is based on lack of confidence in Mark's long term durability and not a specific injury being found, was it acceptable of the Lakers to veto the trade? Because now you have completely de-valued a player who may have been fine in the eyes of other medical staffs or on the other hand, other medical staffs may have confirmed the lakers analysis. The hornets obviously believed he was fine, I doubt they'd bring more attention to it, in the form of a dispute if there was malpractice occurring.
@jmason0622
@jmason0622 12 сағат бұрын
@@joe8625 hmmm, good points. But one suggestion: physicals should still be done by each team’s medical staff, but once their medical staff has found red flags, they should notify the NBA who in turn will hire an independent medical assessment team to confirm said findings before teams are given the freedom to rescind.

No. Think more logically. Hornets don't believe their player is injured. Professionals medically cleared Mark to play. He was playing 30 minutes a night. Hornets believe he is healthy. Additionally, their player they believe is healthy has had all value in this league taken away deemed on a physical from Lakers doctors.

This is likely exactly right. A lot of these other theories are whacky. It's pretty simple. Mark Williams had been medically cleared by the Hornets doctors (professionals) to play. He was playing 30 minutes a night. Hornets believed their guy was healthy. They ship him to the Lakers and Lakers medical staff deem his back (previous main concern) is fine but they also deem their is other things that they are concerned about. They wanted Mark to play next to Luka for a decade, they gave up a lot, it's likely just that their doctors deemed that his durability was questionable long term. Hornets don't agree. Their player has been severely de-valued around the league. They believe he is healthy.

@@mfan2492 Well that would suck, but look at it from Mark Williams' view. He's already probably lost millions because of being labelled by the Lakers as having several medical issues not related to his back. If this isn't true, then it's really unfair to Williams and also teams shouldn't just be able to change their minds after already making a deal.

I doubt Pelinka failed Mark on purpose the Lakers desperately need a center, it must be legit and one thing you don’t know is the Hornets are the ones who approached the Lakers in a trade and offered Mark Williams from the get go, so that seems very suspect, the Hornets are just trying to get over 😂

Conspiracy theory. Pelinka wanted to make it LOOK like he got a lob threat for Luka but he didn’t actually want to give up Knecht and those picks. So he traded for a player he knew had an extensive injury history and then failed the physical after the trade deadline so no other trade could be done.

Trevor mentioned that if the NBA finds the Lakers at fault the league possibly penalizing the Lakers, then would the same thing happened to the Hornets if the league rules in favor of the Lakers? I don't buy anything the Hornets are alleging, because why would they write ta press release welcoming Mark Williams back, then do a complete 180 about the trade being rescinded. This is what happens when there are teams like Dallas and Charlotte having sketchy agendas and making trades for unscrupulous reasons totally ignoring/disrespecting their fanbases. 2 🤡🫏🫏 organizations.

I find it highly unlikely that the Lakers could lose this, a Dr had to fail him, and there are dozens of things they could use to say they did not feel comfortable. Until the league names a Dr that is employed not by any team but by the NBA as a whole, and has him do physicals after trades , they will have a hard time proving what Charlotte suggests.

I think what goes under appreciated here is how high tier our front office looks in the last few weeks. The Mavs look dumb and cheap and Charlotte looks shady. The lakers, on the other hand, look like they have a good medical team, they handle injuries appropriately and cautiously, they build community around their players, and know how to play the business side of the league. That might go unnoticed by the fans, but not by the players. Do you want to play for the Mavs when they rush you back and get you hurt, or Charlotte when their doctors suck? Or the organization that’s thorough and organized?

Thing is ‘Injury concerns’ is vague, Steph Curry had injury concerns. It could mean his condition is manageable with the right care OR the wheels might fall off - we just don’t know. Add in the fact that he’s currently playing/healthy, The Hornets should be pissed. Totally ruined the value of their asset.

I think they are going to adjust the trade & Charlotte will receive less… For example Charlotte will not get the future #1 draft pick. Also I think the NBA should have their own Drs near each team city to examine players before or after all trades.

These “physical evaluations” are definitely debatable. I remember when the Dolphins rescinded a QB trade cause he failed their physical…the next week that QB passed the Saints physical and joined that team. Drew Brees became a Super Bowl wining HOFer while the whole Dolphin staff got fired…LOL! Could be the hornets just don’t want an uncontested medical fail on Mark’s record.

It puts multiple teams in a pickle when this stuff happens. I doubt the Hornets would have traded for Nurkic, if they had a center. Mark was averaging 20-10 the 10 games before the trade, it’s hard to believe he didn’t “pass” a physical.

Trading Dalton isn’t a mistake, hopefully he has a good career but this isn’t the same team that drafted him. Gabe Vincent plays GREAT defense and is knocking down three pointers. Rui plays ok defense and is knocking down three pointers. AR plays no defense and is knocking down threes Luka is going to get in a rhythm and is going to start knocking down threes Dalton is streaky knocking down threes, his basketball IQ is trash, and he’s a defensive liability. Goodluck to him, I wish we had more time to trade him somewhere else, he deserves to go somewhere he feels wanted.

They could feel that way about him but rather have dalton the 1st round pick and pick swap. Just because they are disputing this doesnt mean they dont like mark williams as a player. They may rather at this point in their timeline rather have DK and the draft assets. So i dont get the laughing like they want rid of him for free or something lol. Tbh i hope the league rules in favor of the hornets. Williams will be more of an asset this year than DK will. And F them picks😂

Yeah, the Lakers gave up a lot for Williams. But he was potentially the missing piece for a championship run for the next three years. We just saw what having both Lebron and Luka turned Hayes into tonight. Williams is potentially a 20 ppg guy shooting 60% and making all-star teams with those two wizards feeding him. The Lakers don't give that up for a pick six years from now. They saw something that scared them off.
