Pretty standard break in procedure I'd say, maybe even a bit conservative. After watching the big boys do their first starts on racing two strokes, or just running a low hour motor in general, what I really notice is the key is the consistent throttle blips. You already know this, but with every blip you are delivering a nice shot of oil to everything. For example the Japanese factories that run their old race bikes the mechanics that start and warm them up all seem to have a consistent throttle blip pattern amongst them. As long as you aren't low idling it right off the bat or holding massive throttle right off the bat, I would think the rings are going to seat real nice real fast.
@EricksonMachinePerformance4 жыл бұрын
The blips stop the cylinder from GLAZING on break-in. Just idling at low rpm without load can glaze the cylinder This break-in procedure is just what I have come up with and used for MANY years. Some go shorter ( also not bad in some cases) others just go WAY TO LONG. I know some shops recommend 2 to 5 TANKS of gas for break-in which is silly in my opinion and a waste of fun time riding your new engine! Main thing is varying throttle and keeping an eye that everything is running how it should and nothing is overheating.

I assembled a Yamaha 1200 following your methods. Used Mystic TCw3 for assembly. Do I need to premix anything for the first tank? I’m running Amsoil Intercepter for oil injection. System has been primed to carbs.

You can add alittle in the first tank. But either way your fine.

What should oil mixture be for break in
@EricksonMachinePerformance Жыл бұрын
If you assemble the engine like I do lubricating everything with 2 stroke oil while assembling, then just 40-1. All the assembly oil is basically the breaking oil

Mark, Do you use assemblee Goo as a gasket sealer on the block? Ex. Bottom intake gasket?
@EricksonMachinePerformance4 жыл бұрын
No I do not ( on engines) BUT sure builders use alittle grease to hold gaskets in place and make it easier to remove. But I do use a thin coat on carb gaskets

Hi, random question. When adding compression to an engine do you need to decrease the spark plug gap? And if so how much? Like every 10 psi added you need the decrease the gap 0.01?
