I’ve used predators a lot on different projects all still run great. I normally buy 10-40 non synthetic run it calmly then once it’s warm beat on it for an entire tank of fuel. Or 2 tanks then drain it refill it with my synthetic oil of choice and just do regular oil changes from there and they last forever.

when you turned the choke did you turn it from “start” then started it, and moved it to “run” before giving throttle?
@GuysPlayingWithTools3 ай бұрын
Yes. When it's cold, it needs a bit of choke to start, and with a stock carb, you *usually* have to slowly ease off the choke after starting. Once they have a few hours on them, you can usually choke it, start it, and turn off the choke all at once.

I agree with this breakin except the first 15 minutes I also have my grandson drive it. I adjust the throttle so half throttle is the most he can get. Drain and refill and drive it again for almost an hour. Then drain and fill with mobile one synthetic oil.

Synthetic 1030 will work right?

Perfect for the daily oil but not for the break-in process. You will want to use regular 10-30 for that.

How much times do I have to change the oil when break in ?
@GuysPlayingWithTools10 ай бұрын
I usually do 2 runs with standard 10/30, and each run is 1/2 hour at 2000 RPM(no load). The accepted practice is 1 run, but 2 runs give me the confidence that everything is settled into place and I have cleared out all the shavings that may be created during the first moments of a motors life. After that, synthetic all the way for the rest of its life. 👍

@GuysPlayingWithToolsАй бұрын
I use the same procedure for all the small engines, and they seem to last forever. 1/2 hour with regular 10w30, oil change, 45 minutes with regular 10w30, oil change to 10w30 synthetic and go. 👍

@@GuysPlayingWithTools thanks I just went and picked it up, open box got it for 480 plus 2 year warranty, nothing wrong with the motor at all not even gas or oil ran through it, guess it didn’t fit for what the other guy wanted it great deal and thanks for the info now I gotta see how to mount it wire it all up. Hopefully this engine runs strong
@GuysPlayingWithToolsАй бұрын
@Rico-vms Make sure you bolt it to something for the break in, it can get pretty boring when you are babysitting a running motor so it doesn't run out into the street. 🤣
@Rico-vmsАй бұрын
@@GuysPlayingWithTools yes sir thank you what oil do you recommend I use brand I trust your word, for my kohler ch20 i used kohler oil but when it was low I’d use and auto parts brand.
@GuysPlayingWithToolsАй бұрын
@@Rico-vms That's a tricky question, a dozen people will give you a dozen different answers for oil. For ALL small engines, they leave here with Quaker State 10w30 synthetic. For break in oil I use Quaker state non-synthetic 10w30, you don't want synthetic oil in a motor while you are breaking it in, it takes too long to break in and that means it runs longer with the assorted material that comes off during the break in process. (that's also why we change the oil half way through the process)
@Deucealive754 ай бұрын
Wow. I do everything opposite of what you are doing here. Only thing similar is the initial oil changes.

How long has it been sitting? If it's got old gas or has been sitting, it's a different answer than if everything is new.

@GuysPlayingWithToolsАй бұрын
@@evanr1248 That explains it. The stock Predator carb jets are .028, it's super lean right out of the box. When you added more air and a way for the air to get out faster, it leaned out even more. The good news is, it's a super easy fix, re-jet the carb to .036 and add a bigger emulsifier. This will settle down to issues it has cold and add a *TON* of power at the same time. Here is a link to a video doing exactly that, and a link to the jets I use in all of them(the kit comes with 2 jets, the .036 is plenty, don't use the bigger one) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqLbe4OVp82hbM0 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08S7L3HK9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Would I mess it up if I use synthetic oil?
@GuysPlayingWithTools9 ай бұрын
You don't want to use synthetic for the break-in. It would increase the break in period by hours, which means a longer amount of time where the little bits of metal are circulating in the motor. If you did a break-in with synthetic, no worries, just do it again with conventional oil, and you will be perfectly good. 👍

You used non synthetic to break it in right?
@GuysPlayingWithTools7 ай бұрын
@FTH_sway Yes. That's important. Synthetic oil takes too long, and that means little flakes of metal may be in the oil with the motor running longer than needed

@josh.miller8 ай бұрын
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Did it today and I'm confident in this method. Makes sense and a lot shorter than the recommended 3 HOUR break in from Harbor Freight, and appears even safer considering that there is less time for the initial metal to circulate around the place. Thank you so much for making this video. Using this to attach a 3 GPM 3300 PSI Yamatic pressure washer pump.

I agree 101%. That was pretty common(and annoying in the 90's and early 2000's). It's another case of the engineers not considering the end user.
