Here we go. The Iranians probably either already have nukes or they are rapidly separating the fissile material to build weapons. They aren't likely to be able to build more than a handful at most. Perhaps 3-4 with an exceptional effort. The US assumes no more than 1-2 but I wouldn't be surprised if they have managed to clandestinely build a Plutonium production reactor underground somewhere without the West realizing it. It wouldn't require much to build a small one using slightly enriched uranium and heavy water as the moderator. And Iran certainly has the industrial/chemical plant capacity. Israel, of course, has many more than most people realize. I assume that Israel has used every enrichment technique possible in the past. But now I would guess they concentrate on Plutonium production from Dimona and laser isotope uranium enrichment. Estimates vary widely between 100 to 400 warheads. I would guess near the upper range. Of those probably about half are tactical, for use against military targets and troop concentrations in case of invasion. The other 200 are most likely strategic fission-fusion weapons in the 150-300kt yield range for use against cities. For delivery systems they have the road mobile Jericho2 IRBM, the Jericho3 ICBM, cruise missles on their Dolphin class submarines, and F-15 and F-16 fighters outfitted with drop tanks and refuelable by modified Boeing tankers. So they are capable of retaliating not only against Iran but against any size enemy nuclear power. So may God help us all to not only avoid escalation this time but to find a solution that prevents it in the future. Or else the Earth is likely to end up not only with millions dead but with a radioactive environment.
