Also I don’t think the military was ideologically onboard despite the “incel” analysis from Vaush. I think what the military did was procedural and it was never going to get ugly. South Koreans for the most part are not willing to go back to the pre democracy especially given how shitty their lives still are now, but significantly better than how bad it was in the 1980s and before. It was just a desperate move and am worried about the fallout and external exploiters. What was good about this is how it does show that democracy still holds more power in SK at the very least

@ Sexism is rampant in Korean society, obviously, but I think the incel movements are not as big a part of the culture as just the general disregard for women’s feelings. This hasn’t metastasized to the extent that the military would be susceptible to a sudden move like what the president did. I don’t even think the President is still popular among the incels that voted for him. If he had some type of cult following it might have been more dangerous, but the military’s actions I think were based on procedures set in place by martial law as a legal mechanism, and the President specifically mentioned North Korean infiltrators as a way to better get the military’s cooperation (ie they might think the president has info the military doesn’t have yet, such as from the US or other sources) but I’m pretty sure everyone quickly realized it was just him being desperate. That’s why the parliamentary members were able to assemble without much resistance from the military (the military obviously knew they had entered the building to vote on repealing the order)

My parents tried to give me handkerchiefs to use when I started school in 1999.
