@John Langley Critical race theory (CRT) is a body of legal scholarship and an academic movement of civil-rights scholars and activists in the United States that seeks to critically examine U.S. law as it intersects with issues of race in the U.S. and to challenge mainstream American liberal approaches to racial justice.[1][2][3][4] CRT examines social, cultural, and legal issues primarily as they relate to race and racism in the United States.[5][6] "You start out in 1954 by saying, "N*, n*, n*." By 1968 you can't say "n*"-that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites." -Lee Atwater, advisor of 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan, the campaign manager for 41st U.S. President George H. W. Bush, and Chairman of the Republican National Committee. “You want to know what this was really all about? The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying. We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” -John Ehrlichman, President Richard Nixon’s domestic policy chief Looks like CRT isn't BS, but rather an important lense of analysis for those who actually give a fuck about liberty (which, btw, you've convinced no-one that you do) because that goal requires dismantling systemic racism including but not limited to the structures built into our legal codes to this day.
@dynamicworlds13 жыл бұрын
@John Langley everything I quoted is evidence of how CRT is correct that (including the war on drugs) racism is built into our legal code, so it's not BS. Restating the obvious (and unchallenged) fact that taking down the biggest and most harmful example of this (the war on drugs) would do the most immediate good is just a deflection from your claims about CRT being wrong JUST like this entire racial tangent is a deflection from Ben's obvious authoritarianism based on the blatently false assertion that CRT is anti-libertarian (even in the BS right-wing sense of the term). You'd think a libertarian would appriciate looking into how our laws might be setup to come down harder on certain minorities, but you get so angry about it like you don't want to examine ways the government has put their "boot on the necks" of black people in particular for SOME reason. 😒

I don't know. Some random biologist who isn't as practiced as Neil is at talking to people like this could just as easily fall into Shapiro's rhetorical nonsense. Or at least not as important as the message: "I value freedom, so I don't give a shit what someone identifies as."
@someonerandom85523 жыл бұрын
@@sbushido5547 That’s a good point. Sometimes creationists beat actual biologists at debate, simply because the biologist isn’t as adept at speaking to laymen or can’t properly translate scientific data to the masses. Debate is about pageantry, not about who’s right or wrong. Tyson somewhat specialises in disseminating information to the pubic. Which is why he’s adept at countering Ben’s rhetoric. I think this is being addressed because I see more and more scientists willing to learn how to engage with the public, rather than simply teaching a class. Which does require two different skill sets, unfortunately. Because (and I say this as an idiot layman myself) the public at large isn’t as adept at understanding scientific data as the college students with a base understanding and willingness to learn are.

@thedudeamongmengs20518 ай бұрын
@@freshrockpapa-e7799 that's literally the opposite of true. A rule is only really a rule if there are no exceptions. The existence of exceptions means the rule is not true all the time. If observing reality shows that not everyone falls into the categories that we determined ahead of time are the "rule" then the rule must be wrong and a more specific or more clear definition of these categories would be necessary to most accurately describe reality. If you make up a rule and then find thousands of exceptions to that rule, insisting that it's still the rule or a fact of reality and not something you made up is just denying reality. They get away with calling sex and gender a binary by denying reality and insisting that their oversimplified version of reality is actually reality. The reason we use general rules for determining things is because in everyday conversation, it's easiest to refer to a large group in a mostly accurate way with the knowledge that not everyone fits into that category. I feel like conservative's root feeling towards gender issues is reflective disgust towards what they perceive as intuitive ideas Same argument could be made for Pluto "It's basic astronomy that Pluto is a planet(back in the 80's)" "The left want you to believe that Pluto isn't a planet and doesn't orbit the sun" "Pluto is bigger than some of our solar system's moons it's clearly a planet"

@@jeffmyname1637 I think it's deeper than that, I think it's just rooted in dogmatic thinking. Move the arena into their 9th grade bio class, and you have exactly the same problem with gender. The idea that what they currently believe is either wrong or an oversimplification makes them defensive, and we see ridiculous displays like this to prevent assimilating new facts. "If you are a libertarian, why do you care?" YES. This is a logical inconsistency I constantly saw even before coming across Vaush. There is no reason why people need to care about how LGBTQ people conduct their lives, but the same people who constantly advocate for "freedom" are always the one that care the most, while the groups they condemn advocate for something far closer to it instead.
@Onthebrink53 жыл бұрын
It is not a logical inconsistency. That is like saying why should you care that specific drugs cause addiction. You want people to have the freedom to use them. Why care about the consequences of using them? Freedom almost always causes some amount of harm. Wanting people to have more freedom does not mean that you must be flippant about everything. A women that has an abortion might suffer some emotional trauma. She is free to do so but we should understand the consequences of that freedom. It took a very good friend of mine, who married a trans person dying of a heart attack at 38 years old to key me into my mistake. Now, I've tried to learn about the subject since, but I still find it very hard to internalize into true understanding. But then it hit me. I don't need to understand it really. All I need to do is decide how I want to treat another human being. In the end, that's really the only relevant point. Should I treat another human being like shit? Ok, I will say this here, because I am pretty sure I know where you are coming from and if so, you are just wrong. Gender is sex. They are synonyms. "Gender identity" is the psychological relationship someone has with their gender. Neither is a "societal construct", any more than any other word is. Trying to redefine gender into a new term does not change the underlying truth. That is what is happening, it isn't that the word always meant something else, it is people trying to redefine the word to a new meaning. This is a common problem with extremists on the left where they take an existing word with an existing definition, widely misuse it, then create a new definition that fits their misusage in order keep their argument from falling apart. Society doesn't define your gender, biology does. Society defines how other people react to your perceived gender. There is a difference. One is what you are, one is how people act. Self identifying as another gender doesn't change your gender, any more than it changes your skin color by self identifying as another skin color, or any other biological fact. That is psychological condition called "gender dysphoria", and should be addressed as such. One of the ways it might be resolved is transitioning, but that should be a last step in a long process of counseling, because it may not address the actual issue at all, if the issue is the person feels disassociated with their gender, or body, regardless of what there gender is.
