The thing to do would have been to give 10 of the best Classic series records upgraded, tip on jackets (not gatefold like Tone Poets, just replicate the original jackets). Nothing takes the "Classic" out of these records more than putting a useless OBI on them and pressing them on colored vinyl. They may have jumped the shark on this one!

If the jackets on these special 85 anniversary editions are thin paper like the Classic Series there’s no chance I’ll be getting any.

I wish they had done something like the Third Man 313 series. Nothing super fancy, but just nice enough to get both casuals and collectors (who may already own these albums) wanting to pick them up. Tip-On Jacket, maybe a colorway that fits the theme of the album (Somethin' else blue and green swirl? Sidewinder Orange and Grey marble?). I like the idea to have something fun being done for their classic albums, but I wish they had given it just a bit more oomf. However, if they relase speak no evil in this 10 album lineup, I may just have to pick it up.

The start of the Classic Series was a huge part of me getting into jazz so if these titles get more people into the genre then it’s a good thing. Great initiative to support stores too, but the first place I saw these was listed on Juno in the UK and £7 more than the Classic series!

Great video guys! My message to Blue Note… BORING!!! Come on Blue Note. Give us something better than blue color and an OBI. SRX, DEEP GROOVE, MONO, Nice Jackets. That would have been something nice to celebrate the 85th anniversary.

Was told about this 6 weeks ago by our label rep, so glad the news is now out there. I see the sense and potential, in as far as it really helps indie shops (like mine), who often have to sit and watch D2C sell exclusively through artists and labels websites, with retailers not getting a look-in.

Thanks for the update, Jazz Bums. Great if these blue/OBI-versions can get new people into jazz and/or vinyl. Hope this 85 anniversary doesn't take focus/production capacity away from titles we haven't got recently. I'm a little mixed with OBIs: They can - as on Sidewinder - spoil some of the great design of the jacket (and I don't know where to put the OBIs - except from outside the jacket). But - 1.st world problem, I know...

Hi Guys! I have no problem with this, it's a nice thing for newcomers. I think for most of us who have been collecting for a while, it's not too exciting. I was hoping for something along the lines of the Tone Poet of Blue Train, getting these titles repackaged with better jackets and pressed at a more consistent plant.

I think anyone just getting in to jazz this is an easy introduction. I went online read top 10 jazz albums to own also similar KZbin videos to help me get in to jazz and what to get, as I had no one in my circle that was into jazz. Now you can point people to this series. Also will appeal to the collector types.

Some people like some things, other people like other things. 😃 The blue + obi is a nice touch….assuming they don’t charge more than the MSRP of the Classic Series. Nice job boys!

At first I thought it may be a cash grab. Distributed to independent stores is a real good thing. The recent release of "Blue Hour" Stanley Turrentine and The 3 Sounds is a great album. I wish it had been a Tone Poet with The complete sessions-Master Takes version. I think they missed a great opportunity sales wise.

Aside from SIDEWINDER, I upgraded my BNCs with their AP-45 correspondence. It’s a marketing ploy, which is fine. Nothing wrong with that and I’m grateful to BNC for getting novices like me some great KPG cuts of these classics. Are these Optimal pressed?

I mean we are are already so well served with new AAA titles coming out every month at different price points in both the Classic Vinyl and Tone Poet series, what did people who are complaining about tihs expect? A third series at a higher price? It's just unrealistic. I hope these sell well, the blue vinyl looks cool.

Some random thoughts... is 85 years really a number to "celebrate"? Every year is an anniversary, why pick the 5 year increments, beyond the opportunity to market it. It's weird that with so many different reissue series, you can't buy a Blue Note in a nice tip-on jacket unless it's a random later year TP without photos. If you think about the legacy of BN, the "classic series" should be faithful replicas of the originals, and TP's lower priced value oriented titles since they aren't the core of the catalog.

All ten should've been done Tone Poet Style in the hands of Chad, Kevin, etc. We're not making toys for kids here.. Let keep with the expected standard with contemporary vinyl 2024+. This is not T-Swift and Adele..

​@@derosa1989 sadly blue note has a "don't do it twice" policy. They already did a beautiful Mono Series exclusive to Japan with all the top perks (glossy Tip-On Jackets, AAA, Kevin G). Some of those titles are more expensive than their Music Matters counterparts. I'd do anything for them to see the potential in doing S-Tier titles in mono to run along the Tone Poet Line up

@@JazzBums Good question, I’d mainly want them to reissue older titles recorded in mono. But also there’s some titles that I think sound better in mono, just more strong and propulsive than the stereo recording. A number of the later monos sound as good to me as the stereos if it’s clean wax. I also somewhat prefer a mono presentation, stereo on some the RVG stuff is wonky.

Why put out more records with bullshit covers. I guess they are not in touch with what has been going on in the VC. An OBi and blue vinyl... really? Lets go for the gusto please.. It’s just a limited run that will likely attract new listeners and most important, to stores. I think it’s a great initiative and a way to keep the history always alive. We already have and know that, but it’s really cool to see others discovering. And marking the anniversary. That’s how I see it. Thanks for feedback as always, Chris! Really don’t see what the market is? When you can get all the same ones in print? Missed opportunity from BN, really lazy and boring marketing. I could understand if they maybe done mono versions, or done a TP style jacket.
