I don’t think he has officially announced his retirement it just that according to the BBC McCullum held talks with leading wicket-taker James Anderson about the veteran bowler's future. McCullum told Anderson, who turns 42 in July, that England are looking to build a bowling attack for the future. It is not clear whether Anderson has played his last Test or if he will get a farewell this summer.

It’s testament to his hard work, dedication and fitness that someone’s had to tap him on the shoulder and tell him it’s time to go. Look at Oli Robinson, can’t bowl a spell without pulling up lame. He could go on, for sure but we do need to look to the future. But no one is more deserving of a final send off at their home ground than Jimmy and I hope he gets one

Yes, difficult to know how the content of any conversation that was had between Baz & Jimmy played out. Jimmy may have been given an ultimatum that the long term plan was to move on without him but the management gave him the choice of a farewell in England this summer. Pretty sure there would have been uproar if that was it & England didn’t intend to pick him again. That would have lacked class and no way to treat their greatest ever bowler.
