We live in OC California. LA is my daughter’s favorite place to go, and plans on attending an art college in Hollywood when she graduates. Museums, observatories, hiking, horseback riding, the most beautiful protected wildlife areas, etc. We were there last Sunday and had no idea the very next day the winds + fires would start to devastate the county. The winds were so intense in OC, about 45 mins southwest of LA, that I wouldn’t even take my daughter to school which is only 2 miles from home. I’ve lived in SoCal all my life and I’ve NEVER seen winds this strong before.

In Australia we have hundreds of volunteer neighbourhood "Community Fire Units" to protect their local homes that are provided with a small trailers, fire hoses, protective gear and gas fire pumps that use water from swimming pools.

My friend’s son works for the Nevada forestry firefighter service. They asked California if needed help. California said no as lacked forestry firefighting funds!! Bureaucracy slows democracy. It should be all hands on deck. Doctors perform for free and hopefully paid later for their services. California uses more federal emergency funds as they have no state funds. They defund the police and fire departments! Where does that money go! Smelt fish? Actors starting to stand up against the Democratic machine like Musk acting as shield so others to stand up. This is the Bluest of states and it’s failing to address an emergency. Just sayin.

Mind-boggling that residents living in these wildfire areas do not have a gas powered pump on hand to drain their swimming pools and saturate their homes and surroundings. There is so much equipment, fire gels, etc. on the market for under $2000 that could be kept on the ready to prevent this loss. It is absolutely insane and absurd that fire departments have not made it mandatory that all fire trucks are equipped with a few of these water pumps that are attached to dollie/hand trucks to make em portable. They even sell these pumps installed on golf carts! The trucks could pull into a burning neighborhood and have plenty of water to help fight these fires. The average swimming pool holds 10 to 20 times the amount of water on the average fire truck…and it’s right there on the property! Sad that municipalities, bureaucracies, politics, etc. get in the way of such a simple logical fix. So many structures could have been saved.
