A bi-partisan group of Senators wrote a bill to address both but the unelected head of the Republican Party Donald Trump ordered them not to touch it even before they had read it. The Custom and Border Patrol organization read the border protection provisions in the bill and endorsed it. Trump needs the problem at the border which he himself helped to create when he failed to build the wall which he had promised that Mexico was going to pay for. Now he wants to use it as a campaign issue. The bill was to provide money for more officers, detention facilities, expedited removals of aliens, border wall and surveillance equipment. By refusing to bring up the bill for discussion, MAGA is demonstrating that it's really about securing the border but all about grievances to keep the base riled up over a border they want to be wide open.

The quick answer is that Republicans do not want transparency. A case in point- Hunter Biden. Republicans were desperate to get his testimony for their "Witch Hunt (to use Trump's terminology) He was willing to testify publicly, Republicans refused to allow it. He had to pull a "Trump Stunt" to make his point. The longer answer is that the government would have to pay to have it done by outside contractors with the appropriate security clearances. It would be a nightmare to have all the media outlets to work independently, and again security issues. Your question is valid, many others should be asking the same questions. Another similar case in point-Trump's impeachments. Had the votes been anonymous Trump would likely have been booted out. It is very obvious that Republicans fear Trump. Anyone that sides against him is likely to get death threats directed at them as well as their families, friends, pets, etc. During the Jan6 insurrection, the news did a clip of someone standing in his yard, loaded shotgun in hand as idiotic Trump supporters walked up his street.
