Rest In Peace sunrise. For all the memories and joy you brought us we appreciate. I am glad to hear the koi fish got a new home. I find interesting how tonight I planned on tonight premiering my final tour of sunrise mall I captured on video a few weeks ago and finding out just an hour before my premiere that the mall is literally closing in the next few days. Thanks for the update on sunrise mall Chris!

Hi all. With the imminent demise of the Sunrise Mall (Massapequa, NY) I'm thinking about writing a book, some history, lots of stories and photos. What do you think? Would you contribute? I'm an 80s kid and can't separate that mall from my memories. Thanks for reading.

I would consider maybe covering various LI malls and not just Sunrise, to fill out a book. Just a thought. I'm a published writer and publishing pro. so that would be my advice. The audience might be limited but then again there's all those niche LI and NYC history books etc. that Barnes and Noble carries.

The irony is I was just down at the nearby Burlington Coat store in Massapequa, which looks like a wreck, but has good merchandise for the most part. The area has gone WAY downhill overall over the past 28 years or so. Massapequa in general was pretty nice in the 70s and 80s. Not so much now. Same with Hicksville and the Broadway Mall. When Sears closed down it was the beginning of the end as far as I'm concerned. I grew up in Levittown. Mid Island Plaza back in the day, was a fine mall. Sunrise was great, too, especially for the movie theater there, and other things.

I guess the owner Urban Edge Properties found a reuse for the site.

Yo man, mall is still open. Just went there on June 30th, 2022. Talked to the owner of the Dollar Store and decided to ask him when it will be closed for good. He told me he has to leave by the end of July. I’m assuming that applies to everyone else who is still there. But in good news, he told me he’s relocating the store to Smith Haven. So that’s a plus.
@michaeloptv2 жыл бұрын
He has left. I believe there are only two holdouts left. The mall is working with one until the end of August. The other (H&M) is REFUSING to leave 😳😨🫣
@damianstachelski7752 жыл бұрын
@@michaeloptv Not true. Was in there on Tuesday and he told me he’ll be leaving August 10th. (Around there) Looks like his remaining time there got extended. Interesting that H&M is refusing to leave. Where did you hear that?

August 10th…end of August. Point is he got an extension.

Good morning! I have an update on the Sunrise Mall. All EXTERIOR shops have closed EXCEPT FOR TWO which are “fighting” the town for stayable access. One is a hair salon 🙄😑 The other is: H&M!!! 😳😨🤔😐 It has NOT CLOSED YET and as stated a month ago is looking to sue the city for early termination fees. A legal battle is ensuing. STAY TUNED!!!
@Chris.Cronin1012 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling that H&M will just go to Bayshore.
@michaeloptv2 жыл бұрын
Not sure. The salon is closing in two weeks according to someone. So it’s all on H&M. Try to keep you posted.

Things that aren’t mentioned: it would be safer for an individual to try to rescue American POWs from a North Vietnamese prison camp then have that same American attempt to buy a pair of socks from this mall. Growing up we joked how the Roosevelt field mall was a death trap-boy the tables sure turned on that one.

Simon recently dumped Livingston Mall. Kohan Retail Investment now has their hands on the mall.
@Chris.Cronin1012 жыл бұрын
Not surprised
@rl84292 жыл бұрын
@@Chris.Cronin101 Same, I saw it coming. This continues Livingston Mall’s downward spiral. At the very least, Simon can shift more of their focus on other malls like Rockaway, Quakerbridge, and especially Short Hills.

Why is this mall closing?
@Chris-po9lk2 жыл бұрын
Its dead mainly, and the new developers will probably make it into a new property.

@@Chris-po9lk I heard they wanted to build condos a few years back when the mall was on life support

They're all gonna die in the next couple of years on LI. Broadway Mall is already way on its last legs, it seems, minus IKEA, and Roosevelt Field is plagued with gun violence (serious such violence), gangs, thefts, fights, brawls, and even hardcore holdups. The latter could have thrived still if not for the violence there, which if it continues, will eventually kill even Roosevelt Field. Meanwhile the malls in NYC still keep going, Queens Plaza is doing ok, but they've had trouble there for years, of course, and Kings Plaza in Brooklyn is also plagued with shootings and violence. Why would I bother trekking to any of these malls if I don't at all feel safe even going there? I wouldn't.

Why this mall is closing this mall is very nice to shop but this mall was thriving in 1990s and 2000s and even in early 2010s and it is dead make this again thriving how it was before this mall is sister of mall south shore
