As if it wasn't already obvious, Trey Cunningham comes out as gay today in a New York Times article. He needs to understand that we dent care and how he should focus on track and field since he just performed poorly at the Olympic Trials and didn't make the team.

You assert that NOBODY cares but that is very incorrect. Many of us are interested in what's important to our fellow beings. This is very important to many because there are still a lot of people who are prejudiced and hateful to gay people. Many people think that it should be hidden, like you, but Trey is not trying to convert you. He is just tired of all the frigging questions and innuendoes and part of living his life as a public figure is to admit who he is and try to get people to see that is just as acceptable as heterosexuality if not as popular. All athletes do not run the same times every time and can have a bad day. Not making the Olympics does not mean his achievements are not outstanding.

@@Mr100kaday He probably realizes his future is not going to be exclusively in track and field because he is not quite up to the top level despite last year finishing second at the worlds. So, he wants it to be clear already when he is invited to interview for a job that he's not willing to hide his sexuality. He'd just rather they reject him ahead of time if they don't approve.

We have fucking lives that we lead that you completely fail to see. Jeez dude, bothered you enough. Seems like you cared enough to make an entire video about it. I mean, imagine if someone made an entire video about how we shouldn't celebrate black history month because no one should care, or celebrate black voices in history, or black stories because no one cared. I'd certainly have a problem with that, would you? Trey isn't saying "No one cares whether or not your gay so stop talking about it." He's saying we've moved to a time where people aren't hating gays as much anymore. People aren't giving them such a hard time. No one is caring enough to give him or others terrible time or showing much prejudice. It doesn't mean that others aren't still having issues with it, however. Why don't YOU educated YOURSELF?
@PhilG380

Secondly, you're a real puss if you think some gay dude talking about himself being gay on an interview is somehow forcing you to be gay, act gay, or forcing you to accept gays. You can change the channel. But here's the deal, we AREN'T going away. As much as you'd like to see us disappear, we aren't. And you know what? Finally, straight people are ALL over the TV talking about their lives as straight people, with their wives and husbands, with their dating habits, hell, they even have a ton of dating SHOWS where people get married after a few hot dates, I think the bachelor? The TV, is straight people, straight sex, all day, all night. One or 15 gay athletes sure has you all hot and bothered. You sound waaaay prejudice. A lot of people didn't want to see or hear from a lot of other type of people in the past, and they persisted. It's crazy how this type of bigotry recycles itself, sometimes from the same people who experienced it, or continue to experience. And they repeat the bigotry in the same exact way, with the same freaking tropes and with the same exact lines almost, just changed a little for context and content. I mean, just think about it.

Please show me where Trey talks about his sexual activities. Or really where anyone coming out talks about their sexual activities. They don't. They merely come out as gay. You are misguided. You're the one that is ignorant. I didn't compare the plight. I compared the prejudice you have. The plights are different, in many ways. But in many ways they are the same. You don't want to see it because you don't like gay people. You have that prejudice in you. You say you don't care, but creating an entire video on it, and with as much ignorance as the video contains, it's quite obvious how much you do care, and it's quite obvious the prejudice you have.

Trey Cunningham not only SCREAMS gay, but “camp gay” at that! Every single time I see him run, and he mentioned his girlfriend, I always thought, “wait, why is he pretending to be straight”? And honestly, since I now know so many in DC, he appears more “trans” than “gay”, and I was wondering if he wasn’t coming out as gay because he may be a “straight trans woman”. If you speak with trans folks and have them explain, you could understand this more. But I honestly feel the same about Trevor Bassitt and even Rai. None of this is a diss at all…it’s just my Gaydar works very well.

As to them "loving to announce to the world etc., " the femme's do not have to announce anything. It is the one's who can pass for straight that are the unknown quantities and if they want us to know about it they need to come clean (no pun intended.) Many straight appearing gays never admit to it finding that it's preferable to be in the closet to having so many people judge them, condemn them, make jokes about them, insult them and/or generally show contempt for them.

@vernonfrance2974
@vernonfrance2974 11 күн бұрын
@@Mr100kaday I agree that he should date whomever he wants. Still, there are good reasons to come out. Most people will not be insulting to a gay to their face, at least in public, and this is a way for him to tip them off that he does not want to hear any of their snide remarks since they have been forewarned. Being gay, despite the right wingers' and Bible thumpers' opinions, is nothing that someone should be silent about. Unlike being black or white or red or yellow, it is not clear to the world from the get go if someone is gay. When I was growing up in the 50's the only public figure that people knew was gay was Liberace, the pianist. He attained fame and fortune despite all of the contempt for his sexuality people heaped on him. People need to respect each other's differences and part of that respect comes from being clear about and accepting of who that other person is. When I was a teacher during busing in Boston, I had to ask the students what so-called "race" they were because the court wanted to know. One student who apparently was black refused to commit to any of the categories because he was a proud biracial person. I saw from that that people should accept who they are and let people know that they did respect themselves.

@@Mr100kaday How is it "European thinking?" Thinking is something that varies with the individual and many non-Europeans also do not judge people based on their sexuality. Take Japan and Thailand for example. Historically, these Asian countries have not condemned so-called perverted sex, while the Old Testament of the Bible which were very influential in Europe let people caused people to be very judgmental and hostile to gays in Europe - sometimes even burning them at the stake. It is generally true that liberals are generally less judgmental and want all people to be treated with dignity and respect while many people on the right politically are trying to feel they are better than others.

@@Mr100kaday That sounds like "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." I think Trey was unwilling to stay in the closet because it made him feel uncomfortable. Being a well known individual, he was constantly being queried about his sexual tendencies. I feel that he performed very poorly in the finals because he got tripped up on a hurdle early on and that resulted in him hitting at least the last five hurdles. That slowed him down a lot more than usual. He still has that silver in Budapest and all of those NCAA titles.

No. Being homosexual is not limited to what one does in private any more than being heterosexual is. Anything that affects a person's self image is fine to be out in the open. How can he be proud of himself and his great accomplishments if he's still hiding in the closet? Interestingly most heterosexuals who are successful at sex think of it as something to be proud of and don't mind letting others know about it.
