I've never understood why these information people are treated as so important. If everyone waited just a day the information would be the same. Steven A Smith said LeBron would go to the Heat and had to wait 30 days to be proven correct. He said he lost sleep over whether or not he was correct. Why? Because for some reason we need to know now. This isn't a government bribery scandal to cover up a covert war or some such thing.

I feel like there’s lots of quasi reporters on the internet who break news pretty reliably and quickly and if they had access to the legitimacy of the ESPN brand could basically be as good as Woj. Like I’m not saying it’s easy to do what Woj does but it’s not like he’s Michael Jordan and is inherently so much better than everyone on the planet at what he does. It’s a super difficult job but there’s lots of people who can do it. Remember when Broussard was a pretending he had an inside source on something but it turned out it was just a random guy on twitter who was right a lot (something like that, I don’t remember the exact story).

In Woj's retirement statement, he spoke of his love of being a sportswriter and getting his first byline on a story. I'm sure what he was doing at ESPN was VERY lucrative - but getting texts from "sources" (agents and assistant GMs), checking the grammar, and then posting it as a Woj Bomb can't be very intellectually satisfying. Maybe he got the bag, paid off his house, and made sure his two kids could go to any college they want to, and he's fine with that.
