A good source of Potassium is Coconut Water! I drink a store brand and a 16.9 oz container has 1,180 mg's of Potassium. It's unflavored and slightly sweet and taste good. I would stick with unflavored without added sugars.

Wow! This was incredibly eye-opening. I just asked chat gpt and got this answer as to how to get 4600 mg of potassium each day. This is the answer I received: Getting 4,600 milligrams of potassium daily can be achieved by incorporating a variety of potassium-rich foods into your diet. Here’s a guide on how to do it: ### **Potassium-Rich Foods** 1. **Fruits** - **Bananas**: One medium banana contains about 400 mg. (2-3 bananas = ~800-1,200 mg) - **Oranges**: One large orange has about 330 mg. (2 oranges = ~660 mg) - **Avocados**: One avocado contains around 970 mg. - **Cantaloupe**: One cup contains about 430 mg. 2. **Vegetables** - **Sweet Potatoes**: One medium sweet potato has around 540 mg. - **Spinach**: One cup of cooked spinach has about 840 mg. - **Tomatoes**: One cup of tomato sauce contains about 700 mg. - **Beet Greens**: One cup cooked provides about 1,300 mg. 3. **Legumes** - **Lentils**: One cup cooked provides about 730 mg. - **Kidney Beans**: One cup cooked contains about 610 mg. 4. **Dairy** - **Milk**: One cup provides about 370 mg. - **Yogurt**: One cup of plain yogurt has around 570 mg. 5. **Nuts & Seeds** - **Almonds**: One ounce (about 23 almonds) contains around 200 mg. - **Sunflower Seeds**: One ounce provides about 240 mg. 6. **Fish** - **Salmon**: One 3-ounce fillet has about 490 mg. - **Halibut**: A 3-ounce fillet contains about 490 mg. ### **Daily Meal Plan Example** 1. **Breakfast:** - A smoothie with a banana (400 mg), a cup of spinach (840 mg), and a cup of yogurt (570 mg) = ~1,810 mg. 2. **Lunch:** - A salad with half an avocado (485 mg), a cup of cooked lentils (730 mg), and a side of tomato sauce (700 mg) = ~1,915 mg. 3. **Dinner:** - A baked sweet potato (540 mg) with a 3-ounce salmon fillet (490 mg) = ~1,030 mg. 4. **Snacks:** - An orange (330 mg) and a handful of almonds (200 mg) = ~530 mg. Total for the day: ~5,285 mg of potassium This plan slightly exceeds 4,600 mg, ensuring you meet your daily requirement. Adjust portion sizes to match your specific needs.

i had a heart attack over 20 years ago when i was only in my early 40s....i had 3 stents inserted and put on meds for life; aspirin, bisprolol and a statin (though i'm seriously thinking of coming off that!)...then I developed 'silent reflux' (LPR) 2 and a half years ago so my diet had to change dramatically...one of the 'safest' reflux foods are bananas and i would eat lots of them along with almond butter in sandwiches...then not long ago I had regular bloodwork done...my doctor was happy with my results except for my potassium levels...he said that they were far too high and too much of it is dangerous for cardiac patients such as myself....he asked about my diet and when I mentioned bananas he cried out, 'Aha there you are! stop eating too many!'....so i now only have a maximum of 2 per day.....but now after this video i'm not so sure!

The reason given for the "low" levels of K in most supplements is that more than that amount at once is said to cause intestinal lesions and the potential for internal bleeding. Please address this issue. How much is actually safe to consume at one time? I take 99 mg several times per day as well as Mg and Taurine.

@jonathanberry1111
@jonathanberry1111 18 күн бұрын
@@kevinlcarlson Well, you could carefully try based on the fact that 2,632 mg of Potassium Citrate is 1G, so figure out how many grams of Potassium you get from food and work out how many grams you need supplemented. If you assume you are say ok with 5g (4700mg is the higher end of the recommended range) of Potassium and that you will only get 2g a day from food then 3g or almost 3g (2700mg) from potassium citrate, so just multiply 2632 x 2.7 = 7106mg. That's a lot. So just be sure that your kidneys aren't in failure (but even with high dosages that still seemed beneficial) and that you aren't getting Hypokalemia so just make sure you do consume some Sodium Chloride with say pink Himalayan salt or some other unrefined salt, I stress unrefined, iodized is nice but be aware the iodine evaporates!

Most likely all of those studies had their participants eat fruit and vegetables to increase potassium intake, maybe some supplemented as well, but the vast majority probably did not. This means that potassium cannot be established as the main cause for the reduction in mortality. We know that fruits and vegetables have many molecules that on their own, or in combination are beneficial for the human body. Now I do not want to say that potassium does not have any effect, I am pretty sure that part of the reduction in mortality comes from potassium. But it would be a missconception to think that supplementing with potassium will lead to a similar drastic decrease in mortality compared to fruit and vegetables.

Good point, and I agree. The actual foods that contain potassium contain much more that's beneficial to health! And getting potassium from a pill is not the same. Would be interesting to see a long term study of two groups of people, 1 group getting potassium from food only, the other from only a potassium supplement....then see the overall mortality/longevity rates.

Great point . Most high K foods such as avocado, salmon , sweet potato’s, tomatoes, fruits etc have many beneficial effects . And also people who eat these healthy foods tend to have a healthy lifestyle with excercise, not overeating etc. So many confounding factors . So we don’t know if it’s the potassium. Always amazed how few MDs. Know how to read and interpret and critique studies.

Potassium lowers BP, while sodium raises it. Ideally we all should start salting our food with potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride.

@@dou40006 I have developed kidney stones since I was in my 30’s. It’s been Hell. I’ve had a number of surgeries. One ultrasound sound revealed seven kidney stones, four in one kidney and three in another. I started taking high doses of potassium. My stones dissolved and I haven’t had a stone since.
