BREAKING: Royal Mail Sale To Czech Billionaire Cleared By Government

Royal Mail’s sale to Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky has been cleared by the Government, paving the way for the more than 500-year-old postal service to pass into foreign ownership for the first time.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds confirmed the Government had secured a raft of legally-binding commitments with Mr Kretinsky’s EP Group over the postal service, including protecting the one-price-goes-anywhere delivery commitment and a pledge to keep Royal Mail headquartered in the UK.
Mr Kretinsky and International Distribution Services agreed a deal worth £3.6 billion - or £5.3 billion including debt - in May but had been waiting for approval from the Government, which must sanction the takeover given the national importance of Royal Mail and the postal service in the UK.

As a Postie, I can say that the rounds have got bigger and bigger, and not achievable within the time most of the year round. Then add an influx of Christmas mail and an influx of Christmas parcels then something has got to give. As for the cost of a stamp, the company has made first class more expensive (but still cheaper than delivering it yourself) so as to encourage more people over to second class. This is in a bid to change how often mail is delivered, as the company wants to deliver mail every other day, so they can concentrate more on parcels. Not sure how that's going to work if you still have to deliver first class letters everyday? I walk around 10 miles a day delivering mail and parcels, so it's a very physical job.

Did you know that Posties often have to break off from there rounds to go and get that letter delivered by 1pm. This mail is treated more securely than any other mail, and takes priority over every other item. That's the service you are paying for, and why it costs more money than the cost of a standard letter. I will be using the service myself today as I post of share certificates, with death certificates, probate and will documents. Personally it's worth the extra cost.

Unfortunately, this type of thing is going on in most Western countries. As a Canadian, we've just gone 'thru a miserable pre-holiday postal strike where the Grinch really stole Christmas. As a former Public Service retiree myself, I wouldn't dream of ever claiming that my pay and benefits were ever inadequate, but the posties as a Crown Corporation seem to feel that they are very hard pressed. Tell that to someone in the private sector working for minimum wage and who has few benefits still in this day and age. The promise was supposed to be that unionized labour would raise everyone up to a higher level. Unfortunately, the unions in Canada are in a race to the bottom. Is it any wonder, foreigners want to step in and buy up everything in sight? After four years of COVID, one would have thought that countries would understand the need for self-suffiency, but it seems to already have been forgotten. Governments make it possible countries like Canada not to have free trade between provinces, let alone between countries. This is why we Canadians don't have good access to goods and services from Britain and Europe. What do you think will happen when we have China and Russia owning an operating our air-lines, ports, rail lines and the like?
