I became a Ram fan in the fall of 1966 when I was seven years old. Roman Gabriel is my one and only sports hero.

Roman Gabriel should be in the NFL Hall of Fame. Absolutely !!!

As a boy,the Rams were my team & Roman was my Qb. Rams were good in the late 60s & fun to watch. Deacon & Roman were my favorites..

I was at the the December 9, 1967 game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum against the Green Bay Packers, two-time defending NFL champions. What a comeback! Gabriel will always be my favorite QB.

The rams should have never ditched those sweet blue&white uniforms they were the NFL version of the Detroit red wings or the New York Yankees it was a simple but classic uni that stood out.
@richardmorris6365 Жыл бұрын
As a kid that's what attracted me to the team. I lived in Chicago but always had a Rams #18 uni..

Carroll Rosenbloom never liked them when he owned the colts. So when he acquired the rams he went back to their original colors before 1966

P.s. I remember the public thought the blue n whites were boring. However guys like Roman n Fred Dryer liked the blue n whites.

In the early 1970’s we didn’t have a team in Seattle so the LA Rams were my team and Roman Gabriel was my favorite player, and he still is. I absolutely loved his 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 football cards.

Long-time Gabriel fan but that thumbnail still makes me cry since I saw it live at the age of 8. lol

I remember I played QB in my youth days. Growing up playing and watching in Los Angeles the Quarterback Roman Gabriel was the star. He is big as John Wayne in those days . It seems like the Hall of Fame didn't like the rugged men of the NFL , Gabriel was a beast on the defensive tacklers then his rocket arm on the Rams and the Eagles. What a legend he was a big in fluence in Los Angeles football. An example he was helping develop Banning High/Rams legend Vince Ferragamo

6'4" &220,he was as big as John Wayne too.

Informative but a couple of corrections. John Hadl (pronounced HAY-dle) was older (by about 6 months) than Roman Gabriel not younger. Hadl was the Chargers starting QB from the mid 60's to early 70's. He was pretty good too!

Glad the teams brought back the white horns

Roman Gabriel is one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks to ever play the game. No doubt about it. The Hall of Fame is a bunch of bullshit.
@stevenpagan3354 жыл бұрын
I second that motion would've been better w/better offense line

Maybe a Hall of famer if he played longer and won a Super Bowl
@berendoballbomber59773 жыл бұрын
That's like saying Mike Tyson didn't box long enough and got knocked out by Buster Douglas. So Tyson and Gabriel were both studs in there profession at the top athletes in their time period. Gabriel was the Mike Tyson of NFL football not in the NFL Hall of Fame. You must live under a rock not to see talent or what?
@johnguertin3884 Жыл бұрын
IM NOT SAYING HE'S A HALL OF FAMER BUT THE GUY DID PLAY 16 YEARS...HE WAS VERY VERY GOOD BUT THE HOF IS FOR THE BEST OF THE BEST PEOPLE SEEM TO MISS THAT POINT
@thenobleone-33843 жыл бұрын
So he's Irish and Filipino he was a decent QB. God bless him
@thomaswolf7238 ай бұрын
Roman was not thought of as a "minority" quarterback during his career just because his mother was Filipino. No one thought in those terms at the time but its a big deal now.

5:55 John Hadl was 5 months OLDER than Roman Gabriel. Before coming to the Rams, John Hadl was the San Diego Chargers starting quarterback in 10 of his 11 seasons in San Diego where he was named to the Pro Bowl 5 times.
@berendoballbomber59773 жыл бұрын
Still Roman Gabriel was much more popular in Los Angeles as a Rams Quarterback. I watched them both in the Coliseum as Rams QB's John Hadl probably had better statistic's because they threw a lot more maybe faster receivers Jackson. Gabriel was a better Hall of Fame candidate than Hadl was too short as Gabriel stood at 6'5' throwing under pressure tackles hanging on his legs a different breed of player.
@robertmasina46105 жыл бұрын
After his trade to the eagles, the rams had a number of quarterbacks in the 1970's and 1980's.

I like that when you look up QB you'll see Roman Gabriel picture in the dictionary why is he black listed from the H O F ?
@Stacie455 жыл бұрын
8:06 this is factually wrong. Marion Motley started 10 games in 1946, Night Train Lane started 12 games in 1952, etc. Jim Thorpe anyone? First quarterback maybe, but Gabe was far from the first minority starter in the NFL.
@williamw4045 жыл бұрын
I remember him as a good, strong, tough quarterback but a "person of color" or some kind of racial trailblazer? You go to be kidding! James Harris and Doug Williams? Sure! But this guy? No way!
