Why does society look down on 'the other woman'? In this week’s episode, we explore this trope, and how the film 'Zubeidaa' made us see it in a new light.
'Recasting' is The Swaddle’s new video series where we look at characters who defy the stereotypes of Indian cinema.

Also we find that movies which shows *men getting involved in a relationship outside his marriage falls under the category of comedy like Biwi No.1* and when it comes to *a married woman getting involved in a relationship after marriage it falls under the category of serious drama like Astitva* ... I think this movie sort of deconstructs this trope as well

I mean that's a completely different story but are we ignoring the fact that in the other woman plot it should be the man to be mostly blames as he cheated on his wife and not the 'other woman' for 'snatching' the husband. He is not a 5 yr old kid whose mind can be changed by a piece of chocolate 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Edit: I think it's high time we need a mainstream movie where both the wife and other woman dump the man, become best friends or atleast be in good terms and not shit movies like Pati Patni or Woh

I hated that part in Biwi No. 1 when Salman finds out that Karishma is having an affair and flips out. Meanwhile, he had moved out with his girlfriend while staying married to Karishma. Same in Pati Patni and Woh. He finds out that his wife is having an affair and some back to his senses. I find it hypocritical but could there be another reason behind this?

Zunebida is a cherry picked story where the wife approves of the alliance between her husband and the other women. The wife agrees with polygamy. But Most of the time, they try to convince the husband to leave the other women or divorce the men altogether. And yes, the other women is also human and it’s wrong to demonize them but you can’t root or like that person either. Not bcuz she’s a women but bcuz she’s a person who had a alliance with another married person. These 2 people are untrustworthy.

One very important and evident point that u failed to highlight is that these women no matter the time, movie or era have failed to understand that love is not so temporary that it shifts from one to another so easily. If a person can choose someone else inspite of being married, he is not looking to be loved or love someone. He is looking for spice, passion and lust. Lust is something they(men) are not willing to do any sacrifice for (like leaving their wife ie grahlakshmi or their parents or their social status that cud be disturbed by the other women depending on the era ). So the "other women" should know this and accordingly either move out of the relationship or continue it depending on her needs. For eg in today's times relations wherein "no strings are attached" Exists. So clarity is very important. Since this video is only focussing on the women side, a women shud have full clarity as to why she wants a relationship with a married man and what cud be the consequences of it and what kind man he is that inspite of being married he is looking for romantic relations outside of marriage.

I loved Karisma in fiza and zubeida, particularly zubeida. Agree with your analysis. Also feel how patriarchy destroyed an artiste's life. Karisma was at the peak of her powers when she married and left her profession. Her marriage and comeback film were disasters. I hope she gets a good film. Bcoz although we live in a patriarchal society where a woman's youth matters more than her acting talent, Karisma is a fine artiste.

I think this whole situation that arises here in India is also because in our country divorce is a very very big deal like if you're not happy in your married life you can either sort out the problem or get a divorce it may be heart breaking for the other partner if he or she was fully devoted but instead of playing with their emotion its better like that. but since it's a big deal people don't actually consider it happening and do these things behind their back. And the other partner also doesn't opts for a divorce even after all this because if its a he then maybe for him this might not be a big deal but if it's a she it's huge because if a woman in our country gets the tag of a divorcee her reputation gets really down in the society and in some cases their parents also refuse to accept her and she gets to hear ki "apne Pati ko kabu me rakhna chahiye tha na!!!!" "Aadmi hai aisa to karenge hi to bhaag ke thode hi aate hai" "shaadi me to problems aati rehti hai" blah blah blah But I think its high time now that we make this thing normal as the "youth" and even if we find our parents talking about someone it's time that we speak up and explain this to them politely they might not understand this at first that how's divorce justified and all but we have atleast try. Note:- I SAID THIS FOR ALL THE GENDERS NOT JUST SPECIFICALLY MEN BECAUSE THEIR ARE MANY WOMENS ALSO WHO CHEAT ON THEIR HUSBANDS OR PARTNERS.

I recommend watching kosem sultan... its a turkish drama. there women or say Sulatanas plot against each other to get all the power.. because there's only one king but so many queens. so to protect their sons they play games. there's a constant competition of whose the king's fav.. so this explains constant competition. people blame the women for all the chaos in the kingdom and says if a women runs a kingdom its doomed... but ignore the fact that they are the victims who were forcefully bought there to be king's objects for his entertainment and produce sons. and so the women see him as their only saviour and try there best to keep him happy. one more thing the queens who were besties in real life were shown as rivals who hate each other. This show opened my eyes on how strong and intelligent women are and should be portrait. There's no one right or wrong or moral or immoral. Just people struggling to secure there future.

i agree that in Bollywood movies wife would be begging for man's love in case of an extra marital affair but here its not about other woman or other man, an extra marital affair is extra marital affair! married partner cheating on the spouse as well as another person (man or woman) involved knowing nothing worthwhile can come from such relationship are to be blamed, that is the premise of marriage that you are committed to someone ... but in case of extra marital affairs ironically adults behave in compulsive and immature way

So I wrote something much before having watched this video. Mera gussa iss "raw writing" m male pe zada phoota, but usko thora-sa society pe bhi daal sakte hn. Par choddo... What is society? Talking about the individuals making that society is more important. Toh meine uss hisaab se express kiye the apne raw emotions... Here we go:
@priyadarshni2116
@priyadarshni2116 9 ай бұрын
Iss story k through m kuch kehna chahti hun. Shayad ye mera niji gussa hai "against men". Yes, "AGAINST MEN". Mein na pak chuki hun apne life mein "kamzor mard" dekh-dekh ke, kyunki shayad inhi ki kamzori ki wajah se ... par shayad inhein chunte aur badhawa bhi "ham"(foolish ladkiyan) hi deti hn. So like one example is whenever we see an extra-marital affair, ya koi relationship m hone k baad b cheating karra hai... लांछन ekdum se "bahar wali" pe jaata h, that she is बदजलन/home-breaker. Arey toh ladka kaunsa home-saver tha. Aur home-maker(andarwali) bhi bewakoof rahi hogi. Nahi? Firstly, galti dono ladkiyon ki hn. Bahar wali ki galti ye h ki despite knowing he is cheating another girl, by loving or keeping an affair with such a man, you are only encouraging this behaviour... of course, he is not yours either. He will treat you also like an option for someone else. Aur kam-se-kam ek wo "sisterhood" toh nibhao.... with the other girl. Reject that guy, don't surrender to him, no matter how much you are in need of love, or you sense his need of love. That's Me. At least, that's what I would do. Mein "sisterhood" nibhaungi. If I come across such a man, I won't surrender to my feelings... the face of another woman, who is foolish and so-called "love" this guy, will not let me proceed in love or anything with such a man. I will look down upon this guy, @nd will just kick him. I won't steal her bf, no matter my level of attraction. Moreover he won't be a real man. I like real man. So he is not my man. Secondly, coming to the man. Weak toh ye ladka hi hai. Aur aurat agar ye jaante hue bhi chooses to love him, ab kya hi bolun mein... But I toh don't encourage weak men and their weakness. "First become a real man then come to me... kahin ni jaari m." - That should be the right attitude according to me. Now look in what ways he is weak. Wo ladki jo uspe trust karti h, ya usko karne de rhi h engagement with others... for whatever reasons, this man should go and face her ki "bhyi mein nhi hun iss layak", or "just don't invest too much on me emotionally", or "don't give me too much headspace, kyunki mera headspace dusri ladki/lust ne occupy kar rakha hai." I mean, send her away. Keep her away from you. And it takes courage. Because you boy are also dependent on that girl you are in relationship with, which is why you don't leave her. Secondly, the one you are having affair with... it's a two-sided thing, right? Par zamana sawal sirf Miss Benare s par hi uthayega, ki isne chalaya jaadu, isne phansaya jaante hue bhi that he is in a relationship with some else... so now the man must come out in support of that second girl. I know, tum poochoge ki teer ladki pe chalenge, toh isme kya samajhdaari hai ki ladka apna seena taan k khada ho jaaye uspe teer lene k liye? Isme samajhdaari toh pata nhi, par isme.. courage and strength zaroor hai. Kyunki ladke p toh vesse bhi nhi chalenge zamane ke kataksh ke teer. Wo toh "player" h. "Men will be men".... Par ladka aisa nhi karega. Because only a "real man" will do that, and agar wo real man hota, toh pehli baat, uska zameer/uski antaraatma, usse allow na karti to betray the first girl who was mad in love with him. Ditch such weak men. Shayad m bohot unkind hun. Mere liye aasaan h, kyunki m heartless bhi hun, but see my heart thought about the first girl. But for weakness(not exactly man), I don't pardon that. I don't pardon weakness in men. Wrong. I don't pardon weakness. Right. Not needed, but still saying, I am not anti-men. I am pro-strength, pro-love. I am not saying it's 100% right. As I am missing a man's perspective on it. Weak men usually don't give perspectives. (They just say - Ye toh feminist h, and just move on. )

Just like patriarchy supports the wife, belitting the other woman , the so called feminist usually supports other woman and disregard the emotional turmoil of wife. A person has to be respected on the basis of his or her actions. When you deliberately pursue a married man , knowing he has a family, is CHEATING.No amount of feminism is going to change that . And if some one dosent like cheaters , why blame them??.
