Breaking the Sound Barrier with the FEWEST Blocks Possible?

there used to be a way to break the sound barrier with 5 blocks, using a standard seat, 2 4x4x1 wedges and 2 large propellers, but in 1.8 the large propellers got nerfed and they no longer have enough power to break the sound barrier. as far as i know there is no new way to break it with 5 blocks (without glitches, mods, or space)

4 block idea >>> Maybe you could use the space cockpit thing and a rocket engine, paired with a stabiliser for one axis and a gyro for the other axis, then you could control the rotation. Fly straight up, turn around and use gravity to your advantage, maybe this can overcome the suboptimal aerodynamics. If needed you could attach the cone tip to the cockpit for a 5 block build.

Here's some fun past Scrapman facts: His benchmark of 30 parts was done by the tail propellers, gimbal thrusters came in at 15 parts, then with space thrusters 13 parts. That's right y'all, the record before this video was 13 parts.

Two 4x1 wedges in front, standard seat, and then on the lower 2 rear blocks of the seat a space thruster and a dragon jet on the top 2 rear blocks of the seat, and then another dragon jet stuck to the bottom of the first dragon jet. (Similar to the 7:56 version, but it saves the 1x2x4 and the flat connector). It would *equal the rocket engine build, at 6 blocks.* *.....BUT:* You might be able to use that same setup with only two engines if you used a RAW jet plus another thruster (space thruster/ dragon jet/ second RAW jet). I don't have _much_ hope, but it's worth trying.

So here's an angle you never approached and it's rarely ever considered because of how bizarre and difficult it is to make work. You're trying to break the sound barrier going in a straight line. Loops is another form of travel. I think it'd be fair to not count the structure and foundation needed for the contraption and instead counted the actual parts that move because it's not the entire thing that's breaking the sound barrier, it's the thing you've built to utilize the rig that's doing it. You're essentially turning a limited straight line course into an infinite left or right turn or a flip. I think that's a fair way to go about it, but someone else can pass judgement on that.

I only have hope for this idea if it allows you to set one of the gimbals to push downwards (which judging from his experiments with 50kg weights is should). Similarly, if a small propeller can lift it, then you could have the small propeller for up and down, and a gimbal for downwards (and for attaching the nose cone). Then again, 5 is still an improvement! So 1 gimbal on the nose for down (centered), 1 gimbal on the nose for up, nose cone over both, and a small propeller or space thruster (or whatever is most powerful under 19kg) on the back to assist with both. In fact, with the 2 gimbal 1 small propeller variant, you'll probably want the back position for the "up" gimbal. The small propeller is 3kg heavier and every bit of stabilization will count.

Example there is a rocket company called spinlaunch that has a vehicle that is spun at insane speeds and thrown at super sonic with a rocket assist. Your goal would be to break the sound barrier with something "thrown" and the fewest/weakest amount of rockets

4 parts idea, use diving bell or spaceship cockpit since they have a 4by4 hitbox and use the 2 by 4 by 2 rounded corners on the front to get decent aerodynamics, they are worse than 4 by 1 wedges for aerodynamics, but maybe still good enough to get to sound barrier with the rocket engine, since you were going at 1400km/h at the end with the 4 by 1 wedges and sound barrier is around 1234 km/h

I don't think anything with 4x4 "decent" aerodynamics will work. Even the version at 10:17 with only 2 blocks of the rocket engine exposed only reached 1145, and those two arrows were pretty close to the best green. [edit:] If there's any merit to your idea, then it would be to lay the standard cockpit flat on the ground, use one 2x4x2 round piece on top of it, and two 4x4x1 wedges in front of the cockpit. And you'd need to hope that the lift and downforce of the wedges and rounded piece are close enough to canceling each other.

What about servos? like two rocket thrusters on rotating servo to get up to altitude and boost right down in to the ground. That should be 5 parts. Also have a cockpit with a stabilizer that is set to toggle. Then have a rocket truster and when at a comfortable altitude you turn of the stabilizer and boost straight to the ground. That should be 3 parts or 4 if you have 2 stabilizer in opposite direction.

I don't see how you'd attach 2 space thrusters with 4 blocks total. You'd need a 1*1*2 block or scaffold, which takes you to 5 blocks. Also, I think 2 dragon thrusters have a bit more thrust than 2 space thrusters.

Raw jet times two use different controls to toggle them. Then seat and the big wedges. That should get you 5 blocks. If it has enough power, you could use the good aerodynamic seat and put a 4 by 4 wedge just on top of the seat only and get the part count down to 4. Might work, but idk.
