Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

there used to be a way to break the sound barrier with 5 blocks, using a standard seat, 2 4x4x1 wedges and 2 large propellers, but in 1.8 the large propellers got nerfed and they no longer have enough power to break the sound barrier. as far as i know there is no new way to break it with 5 blocks (without glitches, mods, or space)

What about rocket, diving bell, and then minimising 4x4x1 wedges. Would that reduce thebdrag enough, because the diving bell has better aerodynamics than the engine? I can't test it but I think it could be

4 block idea >>> Maybe you could use the space cockpit thing and a rocket engine, paired with a stabiliser for one axis and a gyro for the other axis, then you could control the rotation. Fly straight up, turn around and use gravity to your advantage, maybe this can overcome the suboptimal aerodynamics. If needed you could attach the cone tip to the cockpit for a 5 block build.

Might be possible with just the rocket engine and a large seat with good aerodynamics: Fly up first, then use seat controls to dive while firing the rocket engine

Scrapman (and anyone else), there is a very efficient way to use space thrusters, in terms of both volume and weight. Here is a side profile: ⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ 🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜ 🟦 - A 1×1×2 grid block ⬜ - A space thruster (either the top half or bottom half) This layout makes 66.66(recurring)% of the space be filled with space thrusters. Each space thruster only has two connection points being attached/used. It uses the same anount of blocks as the 2×2×2 blocks and space thrusters, but lighter and denser.

@@niil047 Each space thruster is attached to the grid block in front of it, and only two of the available connections of the space thrusters are used. It does require flat connectors or some other form of external connections to attach each section (a space thruster and grid block) together.

I'd bet two space fighter cockpit, two 4x4x1s and a rocket would get you there with 5. The base aerodynamics of the space fighter cockpit are very good

4 parts idea, use diving bell or spaceship cockpit since they have a 4by4 hitbox and use the 2 by 4 by 2 rounded corners on the front to get decent aerodynamics, they are worse than 4 by 1 wedges for aerodynamics, but maybe still good enough to get to sound barrier with the rocket engine, since you were going at 1400km/h at the end with the 4 by 1 wedges and sound barrier is around 1234 km/h

How about trying to break the sound barrier with a throwing machine? Example there is a rocket company called spinlaunch that has a vehicle that is spun at insane speeds and thrown at super sonic with a rocket assist. Your goal would be to break the sound barrier with something "thrown" and the fewest/weakest amount of rockets

Use the rocket engine to fly high in the air, use seat control to turn around and point thrust towards the ground. Use a rocket engine and gravity at the same time.

Maybe using the setup of the spaceship cockpit and the cone on the front that you were using at the end with just a space thruster or 2 can do it. The aerodynamic profile is smaller so maybe there's a lower threshold of thrust that you need. With that you could reduse it to 4 or 3 blocks

I don't have to DLC to test myself, but you could try using the cockpit, rocket engine, and a cone. With that, fly straight up, then use gravity with the rocket to fly down much faster

6 blocks is also possible with 2 small propellers plus a dragon jet 4x4x1 wedges on front and normal seat another fun sonic boom video idea would be focusing on the least power as all engines have a power rating or volume/weight efficiency

If you can lift yourself with props while having a rocket engine attached to the front of that last seat, it will flip once you start to go down due to the weight of the engine that you can than use to push yourself towards the ground, also reversing the props maybe?

What about servos? like two rocket thrusters on rotating servo to get up to altitude and boost right down in to the ground. That should be 5 parts. Also have a cockpit with a stabilizer that is set to toggle. Then have a rocket truster and when at a comfortable altitude you turn of the stabilizer and boost straight to the ground. That should be 3 parts or 4 if you have 2 stabilizer in opposite direction.

That would require adding some sort of controls to it. Or gimbals. But you'd need more than one gimbal jet to lift it, and then you need the stabilization for it too so it faces the right way on the way down... It's not gonna be enough. I wonder about a better aero seat (like the space fighter) with fewer aero blocks.

if you use a space fighter seat a giro and a rocket engine then you can juse the giro to point yourself upwards and use the rocket engine to power yourself upward and when your at altitude you can turn yourself and propel yourself down with the rocket truster

Raw jet times two use different controls to toggle them. Then seat and the big wedges. That should get you 5 blocks. If it has enough power, you could use the good aerodynamic seat and put a 4 by 4 wedge just on top of the seat only and get the part count down to 4. Might work, but idk.

When you experimented with the cones you kept putting the 2*2*2 cone on the bottom and the 1*1*4 wedges at the top. That didn't work because of the attachment points. What about the wedges at the bottom and the cone at the top? The cone can overhang the attachment points

You only need 3 or 4 parts, If you use a Seat, a Gimbal Jet or Something to Bring you Up to hight, und using a space thruster to accelerate the fall, Just rotate the Trust in the right direction using Seat control, and Just yeet down If the Seat is in the right direction
