@@sn4831 Cab rank principle? You seem misinformed there, friend. There is no such principle for a law firm such as this. That applies to barristers. i also think that jimmy projected his issues with chuck who treated him horribly onto howard because after chucks death he never was able to reach any resolution. What’s interesting though is that Kim seems much more intent on destroying Howard than Jimmy. Jimmy goes along with it and enjoys the thrill but Kim is the one who is making the plans and seems most concerned with the plot going through. Howard was douchey to Kim but I’m still a bit confused as to why she was so set on this plot.

The worst thing about Jimmy (and Kim) treating Howard bad is Howard always looks like he liked Jimmy. Even in this scene, Howard was the one who gave the nickname "Charlie Hustle". At the very least Howard wasn't against Jimmy working as a lawyer (Chuck who denied it), in the board scene Howard always asked Jimmy opinion if he felt he was uncomfortable with a particular decision, and Howard later on invited Jimmy to work at HHM. "Charlie Hustle" is not an affectionate nickname. It is an insult, a slick way of saying someone has no integrity. I know it sounds like you're saying someone works hard or some such, but that it not what it means. Pete Rose was nicknamed Charlie Hustle, and since then the name has become synonymous with cheats, liars and gamblers. I can't know why Howard chose that nickname for Jimmy, but it very easily could have been due to Chuck telling him stories about "Slippin' Jimmy".

He couldve warned Jimmy that Chuck was fucking him. He knew that Jimmy was an awesome brother, who did everything for Chuck but still allowed all that drama instead of pursuading Chuck otherwise. Then the way He treats Ernie and his employees is unfair and arrogant. Putting Kim in the cornfield, leaving her there and stealing her client was legal but ruthless at best. But the punishment for his moral douchbaggery was perfect: Being stuck with a crazy lunatic, tormenting him even from death.

Howard was geniuinely supportive of Jimmy and Kim. His little prideful smirk after Kim baited him into the Nepotism trap is wild. He really did do so much for them, and they paid it back by trying to ruin his career and reputation.

Lied about what? That Jimmy was so violent that he destroyed the door in one punch and shrapnels injured them both? Chuck has been harassing them while suffering from mental illness but nobody gave him the psychiatric help he needed. And despite being the Second "H" in the firm he remained third fiddle to his dead dad and mentally ill 3rd partner. He actually showed incompetence as a partner.

Something I love about Howard and that I picked up on right away is how he always carries himself upright and proud almost. His shoulders are always high and his back is straight, often he puts his chin up a bit. It's all subtle but it hammers home his characters biggest trait (imo), his pride. When he's drunk or manic he loses control of this proud demeanor and slumps his shoulders and drops his head. Fantastic physical acting from Patrick Fabian.

You can see Howard liked Jimmy, the only parts he didn’t like was because of what Chuck was telling him. The saying goes “if you’re told something enough you start to believe it”. I think Chuck was a big reason Saul was created and Jimmy wasn’t able to flourish as a lawyer he was earlier in the series. (Especially because he didn’t want him to be hired) I think if Howard had a backbone and stood up to Chuck’s jealousy and bitterness toward Jimmy, he would still be alive today and have the respect of Kim and Jimmy. But he stood up too late to Chuck, and Chucks damage to Jimmy was already done. Thus Jimmy and Kim lost all respect for Howard. Jimmy had issues before, don’t get me wrong, but maybe having Chuck not call him a liar constantly and believing in him would have helped turn him into a better person
