A really encouraging video! But I have two questions: 1. What's if the verb behind the relative pronoun as a subject is only a be-verb ? "At our party last night I talked to a woman who is/was my music teacher." If I reduce this sentence : "At our party last night I talked to a woman being/having been my music teacher". Is this correct, incorrect or does it sound rather strange ? 2. What's with the commas in reduced non defining clauses? : "Today I met my friend Alice, who I had sent a message some days before." ..... "Today I met my friend Alice, I had sent a message some days before." Correct ?
@BreakingEnglish
@BreakingEnglish 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, you can reduce with "be" but like in your example, sometimes it's strange and is better not reduced. For the second part, you use commas when the information does not identify the noun you're describing. So, in other words, you only use commas for the noun you're describing if you're adding extra info about it

The video THAT I found online helped me a lot. just a question please. is it right to say that: NOT all adjective clauses can appear in a reduced form, only the adjective clause connector which is followed by a verb, or the connector with double function as a connector and subject at the same time. I hope to have detailed answer cause I am very bad in Grammar. Thank you so much.

Hello I found it very useful and thanks.I wanna ask you a question about participle. ''Talk of a European Super League has been around since the 1980s, with many top football leagues in Europe afraid of such a competition forming.'' Is this sentence a using different subject participle after ''comma and with'' ??
@BreakingEnglish

This is an example of a reduced adjective clause, yes. So, yes, it's a form of a participle adjective or modifying clause. I hope that helps.

@@BreakingEnglish Actually I little undersood but I confused because of "afraid of " in that sentence.I knew that participle have 2 sentence and second sentence which is clause when it has a verb and if has a different subject then it get "with" in front of the subject.However in that sentence used "afraid of", I guess it have been used as a verb as if.Right??
