LISTEN/BUY THIS TRACK ON AN ALBUM HERE!: jayhosking.bandcamp.com/album...
A live, semi-improvised track, performed entirely on hardware, and inspired by gratitude for my month in the woods. This one is a real case for why the Octatrack is special, how it can take external input (like the beautiful Subsequent 37, here) and incorporate it into a cohesive song, how it can mangle samples, and how its scenes and faders are the special sauce for performance.
Elektron Octatrack MkII - Samples, effects, master-level mixing and scenes
Moog Subsequent 37 - Main arpeggio
Eventide H9 - reverb on the Subsequent 37
Written over the last few days in the cabin here, recorded live, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression and limiting on the master.

Drums are a loop that's been chopped into 16th notes and programmed at that level with individual pan and pitch and such. Maybe one day I'll make a break-down video. And the Sub37 is still a dream. Great tone.

Absolutely beautiful Jay. The melodies you come up with are extremely catchy and memorable. Any tips for creating great melody lines?
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Luke. As much as I prefer module synths with no keyboards, I think that my favourite melodies come from synths with keyboards. Virtually all the melodic parts are driven by enjoying the sound of the synth, so just sitting and playing a sound is how I usually start. And turning on the arpeggiator, even briefly, and holding irregular numbers of keys will lead to some rhythmic ideas for the melody. But when I need inspiration, a creative sequencer (e.g. the OP-Z with its master transpose, or the Launchpad Pro MkIII) can really help and surprise me out of a corner. Thanks again!
@lukeelmore8203
@lukeelmore8203 4 жыл бұрын
