LISTEN/BUY THIS TRACK ON AN ALBUM HERE!: jayhosking.bandcamp.com/album...
A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some crevice of my brain that stores all the weird dark 80s music of my youth. I set up my new Matriarch just to ensure it was in ship-shape, and ended up getting lost in this weird twisty sequence. The DrumBrute Impact proved the perfect complement to the bass line, and the Octatrack handled quadruple duties as drum processor, ambience, melody, and master-level compressor. All in all, a superb setup that was super friendly to performance.
Moog Matriarch + Eventide Space - Bass monster
Arturia DrumBrute Impact - Drums
Elektron Octatrack MkII - Audio processing (four inputs from the DrumBrute Impact), track effects, samples, melody, master-level compression
Written and performed within a 4-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

It get's stuck in my head quite a bit too. Anyways, I just wanted to drop a line to say that even though housing prices are sky high, your music is living rent free in my brain (though I did make sure to pay for a copy on bandcamp!)

Excellent. I'm not a Musician, but an Electronics Technician. I probe circuits using an Oscope, however probing them with a small amp module I have found some interesting sounds, also listing to 433.92 MHz a DATA band has all kinds of Digital mash ups, also very interesting after a smoke.

If you could describe how you made the sequence lol if that makes sense. Is it pretty well just broken chord changes? I like how it has a bit of that never ending feel.
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 жыл бұрын
I played the sequence in by hand on the Matriarch, into its sequencer. It was a bit of a pain as you have to get it right the first time and there are a lot of notes to the sequence. But essentially it's a root note, high third (either major or minor, depending on chord), then the octave, then the fifth. For example, the first chord is a C, then very high Eb, then octave C, then G. And so on. Hope that helps!

I love what you're doing with the Matriarch! Are you still jamming with the Medusa at all?
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 жыл бұрын
Ultimately, I sold it. Love the sound of its analogue oscillators and filter, and love the playing surface, but I was fussing with tuning more than I'd like, and I thought the digital oscillators left a lot to be desired. That said, I've heard the more recent updates really brought the Medusa to life, so I might try it again sometime!
@spybloodjr
@spybloodjr 4 жыл бұрын
That's definitely the cold hard truth for the Medusa. It's a ton of fun to mess around with, but leaves a bit to be desired in some areas. I've definitely gotten incredible results out of the Medusa, though! I just wish there was a bigger community supporting it. Oh well!

@JayHosking
@JayHosking 4 жыл бұрын
Some of them are stock on the Octatrack, and some come from a few soundpacks that were either from Elektron or Loopmasters or similar, free with a purchase (I truly don't remember). As for what I did to them, I'm not sure. I develop the scenes pretty quickly and freeform until I get something I like. And thanks!
