A live track performed entirely on hardware. I've got something pretty big coming up (an actual workflow video!) but I wanted to capture this musical ice sculpture before it melted.
At its heart is the Moog Subharmonicon and its polymeter melody; I love how the Electroharmonix Oceans 12 adds some weirdness to it, via two reverb algorithms (one in reverse), plus its "tide" parameter which adds a gentle LFO to the panning.
As before, two DFAMs do the job of drums, with one running on its standard clock (kick and snare) and the other following the Subharmonicon's lead (hi-hats). At this point, I think it's impossible for me to enjoy the DFAM fully without the Empress Multidrive on it; the Multidrive brings out the highs and lows and adds some beautiful saturation, all at the same time.
And then doing most of the heavy lifting is the ASM Hydrasynth. No matter how good the Hydra sounds (and it does sound great), the experience of playing the Hydra is its best feature. It's hard to describe how responsive and expressive its polyaftertouch keybed is; suffice it to say that it shaped the chords, arrangement, and dynamics of the song. And with the Empress Reverb on it, it really steals the show.
Oh, and I added my voice again. Almost didn't. And some acoustic guitar? I don't know. It felt right.
Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth + Empress Reverb - Bass, pads
Moog Subharmonicon + Electroharmonix Oceans 12 - Polymeter melody
Moog DFAM + Empress Multidrive - Kick and snare
Moog DFAM + Empress Echosystem - Hats and bells
(Meris Polymoon does nothing in this one; it was just still set up from last time.)
Larrivee D-03 - Acoustic guitar
Performed and recorded live. Compression, delay, and reverb added to vocals and acoustic guitar during recording, and compression/limiting on the master.

Holy shit dude it caught me so fucking off-guard when you came in with the vocals. I haven't heard you sing in any of your other videos. I've wanting to do this sort of "live electronic with vocals" music for a while now, but I haven't committed to any gear purchases yet. I was already watching some of your other vids, and I just clicked on the next one, and BAM! Hit with the exact type of thing I want to start making! This is so incredible.

Wow, VOCALS!? unexpected. You have a really great sounding voice, killer pitch and awesome lyrics...Nice to hear a 'musician/singer/songwriter' - I'm used to hearing people just playing around with synthesizers in most of these videos...and the passion in the delivery is excellent, as is the arrangement....the RE20 sounds great. LOVE the shaky-cam...the way it keeps the feeling of an intimate moment recorded, not a pro thing with additional people helping - killer upload. I'll have to check out more of your stuff.....

This is what I love about browsing KZbin (looking at Subharmonicon videos in this case).......Sometimes you find people like yourself willing to share your skills and talent. Man when the Hydrasynth started then your vocal.....the tears just flowed, what the fuck is that about?...Magic! keep doing your thing Jay.

Over the last few months your music has been developing into something extremely idiosyncratic in the best sense of that expression and you've got the alchemy supremely mature by now to create an album. I kid you not, you could win awards for this stuff. Keep doing what you're doing and please do as much vocals as you can, it's awesome.

I absolutely love your work, Jay. You are the musician that has influenced me the most since I discovered your music on KZbin. This is also how I discovered Bandcamp and purchased my first album from there. I really enjoy how you share both the how-to's and the joys of making music, as well as the beauty of it in your wide range of styles. I am getting into all things Moog, all things modular and I also enjoy seeing what is possible to do live. While I follow a number of users for tutorials, you are the one I come to to not only revitalize my passion for the studio, but also to enjoy great music. I know no other artist that combines great analog sound, polyrhythm and other rhythms, lyrical genius and melodic beauty like you do. I agree with your statement that we live in a great time, with such great access to quality sounds. Let's enjoy it while we can. By the way, would you share a copy of the lyrics for this song? It's currently my favorite song.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Amund. I really appreciate hearing them. All the best to you and your music making! Things don't break; they just break down Exhale 'til there's no sound They tread until they drown I won't eat what I can't kill Won't shed what I can't spill If you won't go, I will There's no spark that makes this burn No lesson to be learned No victory to be earned I won't wait to lose the thrill, For you to have your fill If you won't go, I will If you won't care, I will, If you won't dream, I will I can take each blow until My body is finally still If you won't go, I will
