My brother assured me that i did in fact finish this but all i remember is frustration with the fusion system and citybuilding. :) its still one of my favourite SNES games alongside secret of mana

Great run, very entertaining. FYI... There are two variations of the BOF2 GBA ROM file. One which works with the fire ROM hack and one which does not. The one which does, is considerably less common. Therefore, that variant may be the one to try, for a speed run to avoid the crash.

Best end game party without cooking for stat gains I would say is Ryu, Basch(Bow), Aspara(Spar) and Sten. Ryu for Dragons, Basch for twin bow and healing, Sten for attack as he has more def than Lin(Katt) and more speed than Rand,and lastly Aspara for buffing and healing.

I'm about 17 hours of gameplay in plus rewinding since I'm playing on Switch. I just cleared Bow's name and have asked what the point is multiple times. That said there's something charming about it that's lead to me grinding ever character so far to level 19 except Bow and Jean. It's a great game probably 8/10 so far my only complaint being that it gives very little direction at points and the guides online are like 'Go to the place to get the thing and get the thing.' and it feels unfair that an enemy that typically does like 10% of my health also has a move that wipes my team in one shot.

Went to the speedrun website for this, everything was on twitch, except for one video on youtube, that started doing weird glitches from the start for infinite money. Painful to watch them cheat there way to a good start. But I had to search on youtube to find an actual speed run that doesn't cheat and not hosted on twitch. So much love..

If it weren't for the desert (unless you look up the cheese) combined with how often you are required to use Momo I would agree. In the case you hadn't been using Momo, nor did you intend to use her, being forced to is a huge handicap.

Fact, it diverged hard from what "Breath of Fire" always aimed to be, especially the repeated newgame+ runs you were forced to do to see all cutscenes and secrets, absolute nonsensical

The only hope we could have for BoF serie to come back would be through remakes or even remasters of the first games to reignite interest in it, but meh, I'm not that hopeful. Especially with how traditionnal turn based rpgs have been pretty dead these past years, aside from a very few games like Octopath travelers, Eyuden Chronicles in the making, and some other smaller companies / indies games.

BoF V was a #1 bestseller in Japan. It's very unlikely that a #1 best seller was the reason a series died. The actual reason Capcom stopped making Breath of Fire games is that the RPG market changed. The same year that Capcom released BoF V, Squaresoft released Final Fantasy XI, an MMORPG; single player, turn-based RPGs weren't "cool" anymore and now we're in the era of the Live Service game and this is how we eventually get something like Breath of Fire 6.

It was absolutely on par, it was just in a very different direction. The PS2 era was one of massive experimentation; the industry was pulling in the big bucks, but hadn't yet turned completely casual, as it would in the 7th gen. But, honestly, RPG fans aren't known for embracing experimentation. Look at how many RPG series have an experimental PS2 entry that the fanbase is divided on. And let's be honest, there was no way they could top the sprite art of BOF4, so going 3d, it was already going to be drastically different. The people that actually engaged with the game on its own terms almost universally love it.

Guy: *litteraly spends the whole video criticizing himself, explaing how bad he is at stuff, etc and making sure to state that when he has an opinion, it's just its own and nothing more* People seeing said guy: "Whoa, he's so full of himself!" (aside from that, he is the world record owner on two of the categories of this game and second place in the most played one, so yeah, when he says he knows stuff about this game, he... actually knows them.)

Having an ego specifically means you only think you are in the right, etc. There's absolutely nothing wrong talking about yourself, especially when you're alone with just a small chat to discuss with ^^'. Gotta have something to say during such a long run. But I concede I'm playing on words. One could say he has pride in what he does, that'd be more neutral to say.
