Silent Hill Warrior 5 Thats what I love about this game. Myria isn’t portrayed as an evil, Dragon-hating Goddess. She’s portrayed as the overprotective mother who simply wants to protect the world. The Brood, on the other hand, didn’t really care one way or the other. They didn’t want to destroy the world, but they didn’t really use their power to protect it either. The moral ambiguity of this situation is what really sticks out in my mind and makes me really enjoy this game.

sometimes the powerful think they've earned the right to power. This story tells an amazing narrative example of the need to be humble. This game taught me a lot of valuable life lessons as a kid actually. Its packed full of metaphor and philosophy. As if the character development wasn't good enough on its own. I imagine if this were a 3d game made today, garr would have cried when he realized what he had done in the name of his god. Woulda been kinda cool to see that giant force of nature finally break down.

@@marach9484 I couldn't get through it. I think once I found out I couldn't turn into a dragon I just immediately went back to the gamestop and returned it. 5 was fking awful though Maybe ill go back and play it one of these days. The combo system does seem at a glance, an improvement to the combat system in 3. Nothing else about it seems that appealing to me though. I don't even like the art direction it went in as much, even though its technically better.
@volkerball852 жыл бұрын
@@nickmagrick7702 - I would definitely recommend going back someday and giving it another shot. It's definitely got its flaws compared to 3, like the decision to make every dragon transformation be basically the "Warrior" form from 3, with the ability to "summon" the dragon's full form as a sort of attack spell, kind of creating a hybrid of the dragon systems from both 2 and 3. Also, the decision to use 3D models for the dragons instead of sticking to the lush 2D sprites the series was known for was a questionable one, to say the least. On top of this, a lot of people were not fans of the "Endless," the Dragons you can encounter out in the world as you progress through the game. One of them looks like a Graboid from Tremors and it's admittedly pretty weird. 😂 That being said, While I don't think part 3 can be beaten, and to this day nobody's quite sure where 4 fits into the chronology of the series(is it a prequel? unrelated continuity? who knows?), it's still in my top 10 best PS1 games I've ever played. The plot, character arcs and themes put forth are absolutely in line with the ground this series has broken in the past, even if the game as a whole is a bit of a question mark. Without getting into spoilers; everyone talks about Aerith's death in FF7(for instance) as their most shocking moment of this era in games... but the fate of two particular characters in BOF4, once you reach the Western Continent, affected me far more than what happened to Aerith herself. Most of all though, I'll always remember BOF4 as the last hurrah for a series that always deserved more attention and praise than it received, and which has been ignored or mishandled terribly ever since. We shall not speak of Dragon Quarter, or especially BOF6. 🤮

Sounds like you came from Undertale/Deltarune comment section. This song is also definitely partially about the history of the Brood and their slayers. If you listen to the theme of Dragnier, you can tell it is definitely a nod to the dragon's history in the music. And you could say the part at 1:55 represents being haunted by death/ghosts, or it could represent discipline under an evil oath to the Goddess..
@Dracopyre3212 жыл бұрын
@@sigurdtheblue It’s definitely a nod to the dragons’ history, but that history is also “I don’t want to fight you”, as the Brood in the war didn’t fight back. The slowness of the tempo and not many jarring/accented notes in the main melody feels like the looming inevitability of having no choice but to do something you don’t want to do, which is to fight. Garr doesn’t particularly feel an attachment to Ryu at this point, but even if his oath is influencing his actions here, given his dialogue after the fight, it feels like his true motivation was to test Ryu. If he dies, then Garr fulfilled his final duty. If Ryu beat him, then his doubts about the Dragon War were right all along.

I didn't see it that way back then. It was actually a moment of triumph, the little defenseless child Rei rescued in the wilderness had lived many adventures, and finally had gotten a grasp on his powers. To drive the point further home; notice that it is right after that scene there is a time jump to Ryu's grown state. I agree the fight could have been significantly harder, but as far as the plot twist itself... it is one of my favorite moments in the game.
