I have spent way too much time in BotW, replayed it multiple times, and the only thing I really wanted in the game was what you said, the characters actually doing! Like, what if the bird dude you fly on allowed you to fly on him over the map, it would be slower than shrines but allows you to explore stuff from the sky! Or prince Sidon allowed royal access to certain hidden locations, opening new shops/quests!

At 3:08 the divine beasts were abandoned because the King of hyrule feared a rebellion from the Sheikah with their advanced technology so he ordered them to give it up and live like "normal people", some didn't like this and became the Yiga Clan. 10000 years prior to the events in the game they were used to huge success to seal the Calamity Ganon.

nintendo should add an option where you can explore hyrule castle without ganon (after defeating him) but then when you go to the room where you fight ganon, there's a remember option (like spla2n octo expansion). ...i only just finished breath of the wild and was disappointed with ganon still living in hyrule castle

The unfortunate downside to having a world where you can go anywhere is that you need to make everything more or less accessible from the get go, meaning you can't have that much depth without jeapordizing that. Having all of the necessary runes from the get go doesn't really help either, because the gameplay doesn't really evolve. If they'd divide up those Korok seeds four ways into the same number of collectibles with four different kinds of challenges, it would've probably kept fresh a lot longer.

Breath of the Wild is oozing with wasted potential, yet it's still an absolutely phenomenal game. I can't imagine how good it would have been had that potential been realized fully... Here's to hoping that the sequel can rise to the challenge.

That being said, while I overstate how "lame" I think it is for the sake of the video, it didn't really impede my enjoyment of the game much, just left me wanting a bit more from it!
